I scheduled a date! Looks like I will be having surgery on June 28th. I still havent decided on a valve.. I bounce back and forth, mechanical, tissue, mechanical  The surgeon said as long as I tell him which valve within a day or two prior, he is ok with that.

It seems like this all happened so fast. I was just diagnosed with this (BAV-with severe aortic insufficiency) in March. Its a lot to digest so quickly.

Thank you everyone here who provided support & advice! I feel very fortunate to have found this place. :)

The count down is on!

I'm doing the surgery on the 28th also! Aortic valve and Mitral Valve. My surgeon has said "most likely replacement". My AV is dialated and leaking. My MV is prolapsed and leaking severly. The surgeon recommends a St. Judes for longevity and proven performance. I'm still holding out hope that he will be able to make two repairs. I'm also getting an aortic graft from the root up towards the arch.
I think the wait is worse than what the surgery will be like. I keep second guessing the diagnosis, the choice of valves, how long I'll be "out of circulation" until I can pick up with all the things I have planned for this Summer?

The 28th will be here before you know it and you'll see what this side of the mountain, river, ocean, whatever, looks like. It is beautiful especially when you get out and walk around a bit.

Best wishes to you both.

901,
Wow.. we are having surgery the same day! Its kind of nice to know someone else will be going through the same thing at the same time.. or at least same day! Sounds like your surgery will be much more involved than mine. I am only replacing my aortic valve. I have a small anerysum, 4.0, that they will close up during surgery. There was a name for that procedure but I cant remember..

Thanks everyone!

My best wishes to you both.

901, your situation sounds very similar to mine. However, my doc has not yet given me my backpack and climbing gear. I just had an MRI of the aorta two days ago to measure the aneurysm. Last measurement was around 5.3-5.4, which has held steady for the past few years. I have a call into him to see what the latest measurement is.
