Hi there to everyone. I have only posted a couple of times but I have been on the board taking in all this great information that is available. Just wanted to thank everyone for that!

I am 35 and the mother of 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and a husband. I am having my Mitral valve replaced on the 3rd and yes I am so nervous...I can feel my anxiety level build each day. Still haven't decided on the kind of valve! So many things to think about.

Being nervous and anxious is normal....who wouldn't be under the circumstances? However, you'll be up and over the mountain before you know it. The waiting and then the recovering are the hard parts. The OHS itself is just a blur. You will go to sleep and then in what seems to be a split second you will wake up and think to yourself "it's over already?"

In the interim, keep busy and do some fun stuff to pass the time. Best wishes.

I once was 35 years old and had three children, no dogs, one cat and one husband. I needed to have the mitral and aortic valves replaced. I had a mitral valve repair 5 years prior so when the cardiologist and surgeon sat with me to explain the different valves (this was 22 years ago) to me I had no question that I never wanted to do open heart surgery again so I immediately chose the St Judes mechanicals. They are still doing well and I would make the same decision again. In the end your choice will be the right choice for you. Best of luck to you

Glad you found support and insight here. I put you on the calendar for July 3rd and fully expect you to be lighting up the sky with shouts of joy that it is all behind you on the 4th. Best wishes,
Phyllis

Good luck to you.

Good luck to you.

Hi, I will be thinking of you and praying July 3. I hope all goes well. Please post when you are feeling up to it.

The waiting is the hardest part definetly! Well, that and sneezing post op!:)

Hang in there sweetie. It will be over soon and a new chapter will begin.

Sending you lots of good wishes and positive thoughts that all goes well as you prepare for your surgery and prayers for a succesful surgery and uneventful recovery. I am nowhere near you in this process so I can only guess what you are feeling right about now and I'm sure it is completely natural to be nervous and anxious and totally overwhelmed. I wish you peace!

I was 32 when I had my mitral valve replaced. I had 2 kids ages 5 and 7 and a dog, oh, and a husband.:) (Still have him) 15+ years later, I'm now a grandma, I've traveled to Europe twice and plan on more soon. And my husband and I just bought our midlife crisis - a Harley.

Life is good and yours will be too. :D

Best wishes!

Welcome!

Welcome!

Welcome! Good to see you found us.

Go ahead, be anxious, and then I wish you peace beforehand. I have 2 kids, 8 fish (do they count?) and 1 husband. It's a lot to think about. They will get thru it fine, so will you, and then you'll play role-reversal where they take care of you briefly. Oh, and yes, then life returns to normal

I wish you all the best for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery. If you have any questions, go ahead and ask away, this is the place to find the answers.
