I too had a Mitral Valve Prolapse with severe regurg. and it was very complex involving both leaflets.
I was told by surgeon 1 that I would need a mechanical valve b/c it would never be able to be repaired b/c of the involvement of both leaflets.
I was told by surgeon 2.. that he would work his hardest to repair it..but if not he would give me a mechanical valve.
I was not ready for mechanical in my mind yet. I wanted tissue andthey both talked me out of it. I am 43 yo woman.. I was told that hormones in a woman's body can be harder on a tissue valve and they need replaced..
all to say I went with #2.. He worked long and hard to repair it.. after 3 attemps he did.. he built me a nice new valve with lots of gortex..and an anul ring.
No blood thinner (asprin daily)..
Is it possible to get some other opinions?
If not.. as mentioned before.. Just feel good about your decision
