There is hope

There is hope

Dear jane, my name is glenn and i have encountered your same problem. I am13 months post op and doing better. My prob started at 6 mo post op app. and was told that i had broken a wire and after X-ray i did. I was told that i would more than likely have to be reopened and repaired, yep fraid so the surgeon said, I thought my wife was going to faint. I was ready to haul ass before they could prep the OR, at any rate my doc said he would give it some more time because at first he thought my valve clicking was my sternum popping. I worried 4 six months about it in discomfort most of the time thinking of the worst. Finially about 3 days prior to my annual, i called on a higher power and truely meant what i was asking for as i had done pre op, made my annual visit and the doc said after a cat scan that he could still see a hair line crack in the top of my sternum and elected to not reopen my chest, The pain has gone away and im keeping my faith. What a life changing experience. I wish you the very best of luck and you will be in my prayers

I am now 3 months post op on my 3rd surgery. I have the same problem, but the doctors keep passing the buck as to who is going to take care of me. I hear a constant clicking and feel popping. This is the first time I have felt this. I feel it when I move certain ways, lift certain items, and especially in my sleep. I can't sleep because every time I move I feel it. Does this sound the same? Could my sternum not be healing correct.

Have you had an xray lately?

Just curious as to when you had your surgery,I couldn't find it on your
profile. But if it hasn't been too long maybe some antibiotics in case of
infection, and as someone else said,a brace with extra vitamins, iron,
and high protein. I assume for a brace to work you would have to be
very careful not to lift or put pressure to the area.
I hope it heals and grows together on its own-Dina

Had a x ray last week when i went to the hospital, He also started me on some new tablets called Lyrica, which is surposed to help the pain and take the swelling down which they think is stopping the sterum knitting together, i am back at the hospital next week to see if the tabs have worked then they will hopefully decide what they are going to do.

Did it look any better on the Xray? I hope the Lycera works and you can get on with enjoying life with this all behind you

Hi not really still had the gap in my sterum, it is not so tend now to touch, but when i do move i feel as though i have to hold top of my chest to push it into place. But it looks like the tablets are working as i said the pain is slight better, so hopefully i got another week before i go back to hospital and tabs should be well into my system. I would like to start some vitamins but have been told because i have a metal valve i have to have to take Warfarin which is an Anticoagulant for life and they have said i should not take another medication other than the ones doc has prescribed as this could mess with my INR levels.

If vitamins do mess up your INR levels, adjust your dosage. Most everyone here takes some kind of vitamins.

Search for interactions (warfarin) with vitamins, if I knew how to post the web site I would, but someone will soon be around to help you out with this.

If you would like to start vitamins, choose a brand a stick with it.
Some list a small amount of Vitamin K and others don't.

Thanks what kind of vitamins do you take i wouldnt know where to start with which ones are best for me In England we are not that big on Vitamins as you guys, I dont adjust my levels thats left to doc at hospital who adjust your levels my INR levels are or should be between 2.5-3.5 at the moment it was 4.6 last week so he has reduced the dosage, i go to the clinic every 2 weeks and does my levels and hes the one that told me about not taking anything else. But i think listening to you Guys that it a good idea you lot cant all be wrong and if i have some ideas what to take i will mention it to him when i go on next Monday.

Hi Tex,
For the first few months of recovery, I was taking daily;
1 -- 300mg of Ferrous Sulphate which is Iron
1 -- 1000UI Vitamin D (not sure what the UI stands for)
1 -- 500mg of Vitamin C
These were recommended by my surgeon.

Today I still take the vitamin D along with a Calcium & Magnesium pill. The calcium & magnesium (which is a single pill) seem to help with my leg craps that I do suffer from.

But Bina is right, once you start stick with it and don't worry if it has "K" in it, you just adjust your warfarin dosage if you need to.
