Hello, good and stalwart Coursers! Hope your week is off to a good start.

No new hurricanes this week. That's one good thing! The devastating damage along part of the Florida Panhandle -- just horrible! Hope survivors can get their lives back together, though it is bound to take time.

Our community Heart Walk will be this coming Saturday. I have exceeded my fund-raising goal and I hope to stay the course in the walk. Good news is that fall weather is expected to be nicely settled in by Saturday.

Great exercise class today. We have grown so much they are putting us in the DawgPound where the real freakazoids pump iron and do other improbable stuff. Our class has grown so much they''ll have to move over for an hour to make way for us geezers. They must be thrilled about that. Gray power!

Okay, looking forward to hearing about how your courses are moving along, smoothly hope.

Cheers,

Superbob

It's been a couple weeks s since my last post. Last week my wife and I visited our daughter and family and grandkids in Kauai Hawaii. I didn't get as much exercise as I wanted but we did a hike up a hill called Sleeping Giant. It took a little over 2 hours to hike up and back about 3.6 miles total.
When we returned we had some rain here in So Cal. Much needed and I think it was slow enough to sink into the ground.
No progress on weight loss. I'm not gaining but not losing either. Seems to go up and down in a couple pound range.
Watching the show Alone on the History channel. They're in Mongolia and it looks beautiful there (from the couch). A tough way to lose weight.
SB, glad to hear you didn't get more water from Florida Hurricane. Hope everyone is well this week.

Got the results of my lab work. A1C is still 5.7, down from 6.1 a year ago. My cholesterol levels are all great for the first time in a long time. So I'm please.

Had my yearly research patient checkup at CHI St. Lukes. I'm in the 3rd year of my 5-year study. I won't get any feedback until I see my cardio, which will probably be in January.

I'm staying in the 149-150 range but still not down to the 146 I needed to get to for our 6-lb. challenge, SB. How long ago was that? Oh, well. Moving in the right direction. And good for you on the fund-raising goal.

MartinF, congrats on the hike. Two hours is more than I am willing to walk without a definitive goal in mind. That's my biggest beef about exercise; I just get bored. Line dancing, however, is fun.

That's it from Houston. Have a safe week everyone!

Nice to read the positives in here today. Congrats on everyone’s efforts at good health and uneventful weather locally for SB. Martin, sounds like a great hike. I love a good day hike. For honey bunny, throw in a destination, and hiking can be great purposeful exercise. Nothing like a nice scenic waterfall loop or out and back. Bring a little picnic along. Good times.

Celebrating 19 years of wedded bliss today. Unbelievable how time flies. Add to that, 9 years since my last open heart surgery yesterday, which means our 10th was spent in the hospital. How special. Our oldest will be 17 this week. Next month is 28 years since my first valve replacement. Just a big time of year for milestones.

Overall staying healthy. Mixing up running, spinning, Body Combat, and Body Pump classes. Holding steady around 200 lbs plus or plus (thought I was going to say minus, didn’t you?). Lifting seems to be keeping some weight with me. I was able to do 30 push-ups the other day. Given my lack of youth sports and training due to heart issues, that was a pretty big deal to me.

Thats all I have for now. Meeting coming up. Stay with it!

I'm stayin with it, too, SB and all! I'm finally at my summer weight goal (155 lbs, at 5'8" tall), but as HB notes, I also bounce around within a 1-2 lb. range. I have gone below target, but most days I am right on it. If, like today, we have a sodium-rich dinner, I may add a pound or two of fluid for a couple of days until I work it off. Feeling good, though. I usually go to the gym early in the morning. I do 30 minutes on an elliptical, then half a dozen weight machines to keep things in shape. I could do more, but feel good at what I do now.

We've been really busy. . . doing little "nothing" tasks and errands. No big things, but enjoying the weather now that fall is really here. The last couple of days it has been clear and sunny (major change, that), but 10-20 degrees below normal temps for this time of year. Yesterday's high was around 50-52F, while average high is about 65. Weather is doing strange things. Spring was very cool. Summer was late, then very hot. Fall is early and cool. No way to guess what winter may bring. Fingers crossed.

I'm going into my fall round of doctor/specialist visits. Audiologist was yesterday. Pacemaker check-up on Friday. Then later in the month I see the urologist and oncologist. Then I get a rest until the internist, cardiologist and ophthalmologist after the Holidays. The joys of aging. It seems that the only numbers I have on "speed dial" are doctors and restaurants. At least some of them are enjoyable!

Hang in there, everyone! We are Stayin' the Course here.

HB, the hike was not boring. The goal was the top of the ridge with great views. We had views of the coast from one side and then a valley on the other side. There were a couple short vertical rock climbs to break up the gentle grades. Lots of tropical plants. I wish it was a longer hike.

Great to see all the check ins! Proud of everyone for keeping those courses front and center. I have strayed off course lately so this is a boost that I need. Alright, maybe I need a kick in the butt!

I DID watch exercise videos.......while eating a doughnut! Better buckle down or by spring my swimsuit won't fit. lol

MartinF , I don't mind walking if there is a destination in mind. I have thought, for example, about walking to my line dancing class, which is .6 miles from my home. But I'd be walking alongside a very busy two-lane road without sidewalks, and crossing another busy 2-lane road, right around rush hour. Where Ilive, pedestrians are not the norm and drivers, myself included, do not expect to see people crossing roadways. I can't think off-hand of any other walking destinations that would tempt me, especially walking alone.

I just came back from a 3-mile round trip walk to the grocery store. I could have driven, but it is too nice out right now so the walk was a pleasure.

Here in the Big City, pedestrians are considered TARGETS! There have been special reports on the evening news that even the buses force their way through groups of pedestrians who are crossing streets with the light and in marked cross walks. I guess drivers here just don't care.

Of course, the police do not enforce traffic laws. They have their hands full with "more serious" issues like shootings, robberies and car-jackings. It has been common knowledge that for the past 25 years the police have not policed speed limits within the city limits. Traffic commonly moves at 35-50 MPH in 30 MPH zones with no citations given.
