STC is pretty active this week and thought I would do a mid-week check-in. Took advantage of a floating holiday on Monday and then July 4th on Tuesday and did walks both days. Wednesday at work was hot, mid 90's, but still got two 30 minute walks in. Our new dog is now officially addicted to exercise. She stood at the front door tonight to give me the hint that I needed a walk. She was right because she watched me eat a piece of leftover pie. Should finally get 20 miles in this week with 12 in already.
Enjoy the week!

Good Grief! I go away for a few days and the forum lights up. Maybe I cast a darkening pall on the activity level here. . .

Nah. . . I don't think so. I was just away at the wrong time. At least it was for a right reason. I took some time to go "out East" to catch up with my wife and to meet my newest grandson. My daughter had her second son in mid-June, so my wife went out to western MA to help out. I couldn't get off work until the 30th, so I caught a late flight out. I got to meet little Victor, and to spend some time with his older brother, Julian. The kids (daughter and son-in-law) call them Vic and Jude. I told them their children now sound like the two "goombah's" that the loan shark will send out to collect your delinquent debt.

The July 4th holiday was a family bar-b-que. Not a huge group - just family, but a nice break. We also got to spend a day riding through the Vermont countryside, to and from the King Arthur Flour Company Store from Amherst, MA. My wife loves to bake, and we were able to get some things at the store that she doesn't find at home. I finally caught the red-eye flight from Hartford back home on Wednesday morning, and was back in the office by that afternoon. It has just taken me a couple of days to get back into a normal schedule.

A 'darkening pall"? Never, Steve! You are a dependable beacon and inspiration as we stay our respective courses, facing our disparate challenges, medical or otherwise. Meeting little Vic, and spending time with Jude as well, must have been pure joy.

Now that your wife has those extra baking supplies, you are surely anticipating the goodies that will be coming out of the oven soon. My wife has a sweet tooth, so my challenge (as a type2 diabetic) is trying to be very selective in the goodies I sample.

We both have doctors' appointments this afternoon -- routine, but his and her assorted concerns, as usual. I think I am developing carpal tunnel in right hand, so may get doc's recommendation on an specialist to check that out. Hopefully some nonsurgical treatments/therapies will stave it off for now. A little concerned that some of exercises in class could aggravate it -- the barbells, stretching band maybe? If so, I would strive to make modifications without giving up the class, which is helping me overall physically and mentally.

So glad to see all the activity in our little corner of cyberspace this week. We will have slow weeks and busy weeks. All par for the courses we're staying. Glad you checked in, Steve -- as well as Fred, Martin F, and others from the past few days. Martin, I know well of exercise-addicted dawgs -- mine wanted a jaunt this morning, though the heat index already tops 100F. I am insisting we wait til nightfall. Ellie is not happy about that, but will have to wait because we are both senior dogs and midday heat with high humidity could kill either one or both of us. We are under a heat advisory right now til 7 p.m. -- temps in mid 90s and dew points in mid-70s. Ugh!

Cheers all!

P.S. And Agian, "thread parasite" is the work of a true wordsmith -- however, you most definitely do not fit the description. You instead are a thread facilitator. So backatcha!

Oh, that's sweet. Thank you.

Btw, I work with a Texan girl, a real lady. She's from the 'Bible belt' and is teaching me stuff. She tells me to refrain from pissing off Americans because you got nukes and ****.

Hello again folks,

I just wanted to share an article that I came across that may help us 'stay the course': https://goo.gl/ndDk5R (I created the tiny URL for ease of use).

Have a great weekend. I'm getting out of my chair and going to talk a walk behind my lawn mower. Kill two birds with one walk. :)

Just dropped in to say hello. All well in Chimpville.

Peace

Mr. Chimp, so great to hear from you! Wish you would swing in more often and tell us about life in subtropical Chimpville. This guy (for newer folks on STC who may not know) is our Founder. The Throwdown was originally created as a weight-loss competition -- a friendly one, to be sure, but a competition. We had short-term and longer "races" to our goals. We did a lot of kidding around; had fun. That had a good long run -- I am thinking about seven years. But the Chimp eventually decided to step aside. And that's when Superbob (me) decided to convert it to Stay the Course. I think we're rockin' along pretty well, but having the wit and wisdom of The Chimp would be a plus, always. So Mr. Chimp, don't be shy -- swing in here anytime!

And I'm back too! Congratulations, Steve, on the new grandbaby! I've done pretty well with weight loss since we got home from our extended vacation--18 days on the road.I hope everyone has a great week!

And Duffey's back too -- YAY!!! Glad t hear you're doing well with your weight loss. I had to step on doctor's scales this week and did not see a pleasant sight. Always a chance the doctor's scales lie -- but might be close to accurate too. I need to haul mine out of storage, change the battery, and start using it again!
