Just finished my first week of working in the weeds, vines, occasional flowers, bushes, etc. around the house. This was all the stuff I was unable to complete before things went South in November 2004. I did get the front completed in October 2004 but started suffering so from shortness of breath and weakness that I was unable to complete it. My Pa-In-Law had to even haul off the clippings because I couldn't lift them. From the looks of my arms its a good thing I'm not still on the Coumadin. I would probably have taken some more precautions such as long sleeves if I had been. I look like I was on the wrong end of a cat fight from all the thorns   .

Anyway, it felt great (don't tell the wife :D :D ). Of course, I did overdo a little (OUCH!!! Maybe more than a little  ). I was able to work without the shortness of breath and low energy getting in the way. Only OOOOPS I made was while using the loppers. I went to cut a bush that was a little too big for the loppers and to get that "extra" leverage I rested one handle on the side of my body (around the rib cage area--which I've done a 100 times) and pulled. Didn't do that again. I'm still sore there.

Just got to learn to pace myself more (at least for now). Got a lot of Summer left and plenty of grass.

May God Bless,

Danny

I have been watching the glorious greenery that is everywhere - thick, too, in these woods and in our property. There is a huge amount of new weeds, due to the rains we have had (you, too) and the hurricanes of last year. How will we ever keep up? I don't do any of it, daughter tries to do it, but she has only just so much time, so it overwhelms, doesn't it?

Danny, I well remember the joy at being able to do the everyday work again after my surgery in '00. Mucking the barn, heaving a hay bale, gardening, just running with the dogs for gosh sakes. So great to feel good, huh?! Congratulations. :)

Been so much rain here that the ground sloshes when you walk :D . Looks bad around the house right now because I cut back real deep, but in less than a month you won't be able to tell where I cut. And I think it is impossible to keep up, just STAY EVEN  !!!!! A never-ending job, even for a retiree  :D . We've got a good growth of Wisteria along one corner of the house that keeps trying to run up the side of the house  . Although it has some beautiful flowers, I think it grows as fast as Kudzu.

For Jean,

I may sound sappy but IT'S GREAT TO BE ALIVE AGAIN :D :D :D !!!!!! I know from the posting that some do not experience that much improvement after surgery (and maybe we sometimes expect too much) but in my case it was like night and day. Before surgery, during one of my shortness of breath sessions, I remarked to the wife that THIS WAS NO FUN, AND NO LIFE EITHER  . I also said I just wanted to be able to do what I used to be able to do. I now feel the best I have felt in over 10 years. Got so much energy that I have to be careful of not overdoing. The body seems to let me know right quick if I do.

Of course, thankful that I don't have to muck the barn, lift a hay bale, or even work in the garden. When we first moved here, the people before us had several horses and cows (and a 6 stall barn--which I use for storage and a shop). Wife wanted to get some horses and even cows but I pointed out the expenses that go along with raising animals. Anyway, she would have made pets of all the cows and we would have some here that would die from old age  . Would never have been able to sell them :D . Just bushhogging 8 plus acres and occassionally plowing the garden for the Pa-In-Law, plus everything else, keeps me busy.

May God Bless,

Danny

Pardon me, but it has been established that these forums are an inappropriate place to post drug references like that.

I know what you mean about looking like you were in a catfight. I've begun cleanup here, and in the Nevada desert generally everything that grows seems to have thorns. I'm on Coumadin/Warfarn, so it's a bit of a blood ritual, but I don't worry about it since it's really only annoying and not life-threatening.

*raises eyebrow*

Hmmm...I didn't get that reference at all. Given the topic and the content of the original post, I figured the topic was actually grass on the ground...to keep mowed and looking good throughout the summer.

If not.....

*shakes head*
