Heh ... I guess it was only a matter of time ... SPAM Emails coming to one's cell phone.

I received my first such, in the form of a text message, a few weeks ago. But, today, I received 2 of them within an hour ... about 2 hours after a friend of mine received one on his cell phone while I was talking to him.

Anyone else receive such text messages on cell phones?

See, Bina ... that's the thing.

I know MANY people have my cell# ... but, those who do, I know would not sign me up for something like this. I really think it may be just the normal SPAM Emails finally being also sent to cell phones now....

For the record ... I have Cingular/AT&T. The 3 messages that I noted above have been from 3 different sources. One was a weird Email address ... the other 2 were AOL addresses. Each text message mentioned a specific website ... so, I immediately deleted each.

Cort,

I read an article several months ago that said cell phones were the next target for spammers. It also said that viruses are now being distributed through cell phones (I don't remember what it said they did). Technology is great, but I guess the more of it we want to enjoy, the more we have to deal with the troublemakers who want to destoy our enjoyment.

Yeah, I hear you.

I've gotten maybe a dozen or so spam text messages in the past year and a half. Some claiming to be old friends (not!), and a couple even trying to buy or sell real estate.

What frosts me is the fact that since I do not have a text messaging option purchased on my cell phone, I am charged about $.10 for each of these messages.

What a load of %(*&%& ! ! !

In australia we have a "do not call" register and we can sign up with our home and mobile numbers so it is illegal for people ring or text us trying to sell things. I used to get heaps of these annoying calls but now thankfully they have stopped .....Mary

I have also received a few random "spam" text messages. Don't know where they came from or how they got my number. I hope it doesn't increase.

I haven't gotten any spam text messages but we did just get our new cell phone bill and found out our daughter and visiting granddaughter made several hundred text messages last month!!! Eeeeek!! I'm scared to open next month's bill.

Just received one hour hour ago! From 501. Opened and had an email address attached. Tyring to sell the upgrade for Windows Vista. Hope I don't see a charge as no text package.

*nods*

That's been what has frustrated me, too. I mean ... it's ONLY $.10 ... but, ya know what ... that adds up, too....

Course, I'm also a bit concerned about viruses ... and spyware ... my goodness.

As for the Do Not Call list here ... somewhere, I either heard or read that it does NOT include text messages ... anyone know differently?
