I've been home for 2 days now, also after being diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis .
Not only did I have this condition, my dad was diagnosed with it about 20 years ago. Unfortunately , my dad tried tuffing it out, and wound up having a massive heart attack and passing away.
I sat in the hospital with my wife, I'm 52 in relatively good shape with the exception of the stenosis .
We both made the decision to do everything that needed to be done to correct this problem. I chose to get a mechanical valve, the surgery was a little over 3 hours. Less than 24 hours later, I was walking up and down the hallways of the hospital.
Like I said, I'm home now, feeling better each day.
I completely understand how you are feeling. Take it from someone who never visits the dr.
The hardest part was the thoughts that were rolling around my head before the surgery.
Remember , this is all the surgeons do. Put your trust in them.
if you believe in God, just ask him to be with you and the surgeon the day of the procedure .
Your kids will be there when you get through this, and you all will enjoy a long life together.
