Y'all are outta control! I happily awoke with all of my hair in place. :D :D :D But had the nurse been cute enough, I might not have minded. . . lol

My husband said I looked very "messy" in CCU following surgery. He said they should have had a gown or sheet or something over me. I said....."OH, you've got to be kidding me! And they let the kids and everyone see me like that?" He started laughing and said no, I had been covered but he was serious about the messy part.

Bonnie, I had some real cute doctors and interns and med students. My surgeons' resident's dad went to the same high school I did up in Michigan. How I ever found that out I have no idea but he graduated a few years before me. The resident insisted I call him Brian (I'm assuming that was his name:)) and I did. He was very nice and had a good sense of humor.

You guys are crazy. I really needed the laugh. I had a bad day with doctors. I called the card. to talk to him and couldn't get past nurse horrible ( the one I usually speak to was not in today) - I asked to leave a message and she asked what it was regarding and I explained my sleep situation to her. She immediately told me the card. does not do that I needed to talk to my GP . When I explained that I did not care to take Klonopin she said sorry we don't do that - I was too disgusted to call back and cause trouble ( I have a tendency to run my mouth when I am in a blind rage and not remember what I said). So I calmly called my GP and got the nurse and explained I was just there a few weeks ago for no sleep and could not take Klonopin because I did not like how it made me feel. Well needless to say they never got back to me after I then left 2 more messages. Right now I'm ready to change both doctors and say forget it.

Thanks for the good Christmas Advice Bonnie. I am going to take it too. I have a couple of paid off credit cards feeling lonely.
Shopping will definitely make me feel better - watch out mall people the tired and really crabby fat lady is a comin'. Get outta my way!!!

I feel so bad for you. I can't imagine why you are having such difficulty gettting a few sleeping pills! Must be those Texan doctors!

When is your next appt with any doctor? I would grab that next doctor, look him in the eye and tell him you want an Rx for Ambien. Let him refuse you face to face instead of through his nurse. Let him give you a reason why he cannot give you this temporary fix to make you more comfortable!

I am very lucky that I have not had this problem. My doctor is very understanding. Good luck to you.

Gisele

It's so important to have a doctor that understands. I would check out anther office as well. I have found out that the receptionist, nurses, lab people can make a difference ,good or bad. When your under stress ,this is the last thing you need to deal with. When one of my doctors retired I had to go to several doctors before I found the right one. Believe me I think I met the wicked witch of the west right here in a doctors office in Mpls.. HFK

Hi Susan -
Gosh, it is the worst when doctors (and their staffs) act as if they are doing you a favor by talking with you. Especially when you feel vulnerable and tired and sick to begin with, and have no energy to combat their rudeness. Grr.

I've found it to be nearly impossible to get a new prescription written over the phone (anyone else have similar/different experiences?). You might try making an appointment to try and get the 'scrip changed. Sometimes going in and seeing the doc face-to-face yields better results. It allows them to see your suffering face and gets you past the gate-keeping nurses.

Gisele had it right - a few sleeping pills shouldn't be this hard to get! Sheesh!

Melissa

Oh yeah - this suggestion is from a friend. She says if she starts having trouble with a customer service rep/nurse/etc, she hangs up and keeps calling back until she gets someone who is cooperative. Sometimes all it takes is getting to the person who is having a good day. :D I've yet to try it, but it sounds good in theory!

Melissa

Melissa, you are right..........

Melissa, you are right..........

I could see if she was trying to get a 90 day supply with three refills, then there would be a bit of resistance from the md office, but a few pills until she gets over all of this...........it shouldn't be this hard! Some doctors have no empathy for their patients..........just wait until they get sick one of these days.........oh, I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed today, huh?

just wait until they get sick one of these days
No doubt. Then we can start I.V. antibiotic therapy on them with a 18 gauge angiocath needle and an inexperienced sticker! Ah revenge can be sweet.

And another thing Susan..........

And another thing Susan..........

It is NOT up to the nurse to decide which meds the doc will dispense. She can tell you what she thinks he might do, but the ultimate decision is up to the doctor himself. She should pass your complaint onto to him for him to decide.

Ross, I see you decided to take a shower today, huh? LOL

PS: wouldn't want to send an inexperienced person to take care of my doc.....he's a sweetheart........:D

I might have said this before, but anyway, I'll say it again.

If there is a disagreeable person manning the phones at the doctor's office, it couldn't possibly go unnoticed by the doctor. He's within earshot much of the time, and other patients would have complained to him.

My conclusion when faced with this situation is, the doctor is that way also, and thinks this is OK. Otherwise this woman would be taking a walk.

She apparently has his tacit approval for her attitude, especially if she has been there for a while.

So unless you have more b---- than her, you might want to look elsewhere. It will be a battle all the time, and when you least need this kind of grief.

IMHO life is too short to take this for any amount of time, and health is too important.

Good news!!
Called the GP early this morning and opened a can of verbal whoop a-- on his answering machine. At 9:01 he called me at work and profusely apologized. He said he was trying a new girl and having some problems. He gave me his direct number and told me to call anytime. I also got a prescription for Ambien 10 mg. and 3 refills. So I'm off to la la land. Thanks for all your advice and support and mostly for letting me vent.

Susan

Hey Susan - Way to go girl ! That's being proactive about your health care. Keep those spurs sharp and you'll do just fine. Sometimes its all about sensing an attitude. If they know you are serious, Katie bar the door ! :D Chris

that's great susan!
ambien is great stuff.... we got some when we were flying to europe a few years back and were told it would put us right to sleep. so we took a pill each and were just waiting to get groggy when the flight attendant brought our food... both joey and i had to fight off the sleep and practically landed in our trays, but by the time we were conw with our meals, we weren't tired anymore. that's when i learned that ambien is great for just getting to sleep. once you miss that window though, you're on your own.... it was really funny at the time.
glad you're doing well. get some rest,
sylvia

Hey Susan,
Glad to hear you are taking charge of your health care. Someone else said it best here. "Remember the doctors work for us, we don't work for them."
Take Care of yourself.

Dave
