Has anyone out there had any experience with taking a homepathic sleep aid? We are still trying for sleep with my husband, and picked up one at the health food store. Then I called the cardio office and got the standard answer. "The dr. doesn't recommend any homeopathic medicines." They instead recommend 25mg Benedryl. With all the meds, I would like to try something natural.

Hi danilynn-

Please don't use anything without clearing it with your husband's doctors, especially if he's on a lot of medication.

My husband is on something like 14 medications, and it's so complicated that when he has his cardiology appointments, they have the Pharmacist come in and have a meeting with him and go over every little thing, including any over-the-counter stuff. They are very, very picky.

And Joe's Internal Medicine doctor has mentioned many times that although one particular medication might not be too bad, sometimes that can have a little reaction with something, which start a snowball effect with all the other medications, a cascade of reactions.

People on many medications have to be extremely careful.

If I were you, I would go with what the doctor suggested.

It's possible that it could interact with Coumadin if he's taking that also.

I hate to say it, but he's not going to get any real sleep for awhile. You can try the Benedryl but they don't seem to do anything for me. I don't know what's cheaper, getting them as Benedryl or going to the store and picking it up as Tylenol sleep aid. Same stuff, same strength Diphenhydramine HCL.

I'm under strict instructions regarding any herbal or dietary supplements: Don't take them.

For over-the-counter medications: Don't take them without checking beforehand. Tylenol once in a while has already been okayed.

It simply isn't worth the risk as far as I'm concerned.
