Before having these heart issues I would always go maximum when excercising so I guess I was at max heart rate most of the time...difference is that now I measure it...can't hurt to have a bit of an idea what is going on...

I realize that I wont be able to keep up a pace of 5.0-5.5 min/km for such a long distance. I dont have time to run for hours every week so I will increase distance a little but will mostly be trying to improve my time and hope I can go further when I decrease the pace on the actual marathon. I hope if I do short practice runs and go up to 12 km a few times in the month before the marathon I should be able to push for 21 km on race day. I will be super proud if I can do it within 2 hours, still happy if within 2.5 hours, ok if it is within 3 hours and greatly dissappointed if I dont make it.

Mike the reply from the real Kodi. First, thanks Tom. I will be 75 in Feb. I had my AVR Oct 5, 2006 and ran my first post-op marathon Oct 6, 2007, in under 5 hours. I am much slower and have completed 7 marathons since, my latest on Oct 5. I was scheduled for another Mar 2, but had to cancel. Running saved my life, I've been at it 34 years and can't/won't stop. Watch tomorrow for my 2013 Challenge.

Jack....good for you. Good luck on the half. I'm not sure I could run one in really cold weather, cold to me is 40º.

Shoot! At 40F I'd be running in shorts. I don't think the temps Jan 1st will even reach 30F, plus a little snow for good measure.
 
The Hangover Half Marathon is done. It turns out 13.1 miles is double the 9.3 mile distance, kind of like a Tardis effect. It took me more than 3 hours as predicted, don't know exactly since they dismantled the finish line and removed the clock before I got back. The guy ahead of me said it was 3:05, so I wrote down 3:10 just for good measure. The weather was simply horrible, meaning typical for January in Albany. I think I'll avoid running outdoors for 6 or 8 weeks now.

Congrats on finishing!! My half marathon training program started yesterday, now that I think I finally have my foot injury under control . . . I did 1.1km so I just need to add another 20km to that before the end of August.

Were you officially DFL? (D is dead, L is last, you can guess what F is). I was DFL in a race a few years ago and as soon as I crossed the line they whisked the timing mats away - funny now but not a nice feeling then! Still, better than all the wooses who didn't turn up :)
 
Great Job Jack! That's a great wat to start the new year. I ran a 5K today in the cold pouring rain and I'm so glad I did. I almost let the rain stop me but luckily I had some good friends there to do it with me. Made all the difference. Keep running!

I still haven't done a half since my surgery and I've become a baby when it comes to running in the cold - so you're an inspiration to me!!!!

Not the first time I have finished DFL, nor the first time a finish line was dismantled on me at a certain break-off. I was 2nd from last in the December 15K, only out-slowed by one 20-something woman novice. In the half, at about 3 miles I caught up to the same girl, so we ran together and chatted until about 9 miles when I let her go because I was going to take a lot of walk breaks for the remainder.

I have a neuroma in the toes on the left foot. It's been with me for years. They start to hurt at ~6 miles, then go numb at 8-9 miles. If I walk for a bit the feeling returns and I can go on if I continue to alternate walk/run. 20 minutes after stopping, no more pain.
