Hi, I have been more unwell for the last few weeks, and have had some scary chest pain (from miminal exertion) and arrhythmia yesterday and thismorning. So my question is, would it be worth my while to change my cardiologist and see a cardiologist in a teaching hospital. There is a teaching hospital in Dublin called ST. Vincents. The only reason I choose St.James is because I can get the train from Kilkenny and then a tram straight up to the hospital. But I havent a lot of faith in my cardio, for a few reasons, which are too long to explain.

This would take more time (paper work etc from gp) but mabey would be worthwhile in the long run.

Any thoughts appreciated !!

Jacqui - I think you need to get checked out. If you don't trust your current cardio, by all means - switch.

Did you ever go in with the flu you had?

Well, if what you are doing now isn't working and you feel that your card is not that good, then it is very logical to make a change. Joe had good luck at teaching hospitals.

Sounds like a good plan.

Thank you for your replies.

Karlynn, I never did go in with the flu. Havent had my INR checked either. I have to make an appt with my gp for a B12 shot, so I will get my INR checked at the same time. I am finding it difficult to get on top of things lately.

Jacqui, YES, YES, and YES! DO IT! Just know though, that they may also recommend Flecanide as well. I think you need to open yourself up to try some of these other treatments if you want to get some relief from your symptoms. Can you imagine how great that would be? Good luck. Make that call today.

Hi Jacqui,

If you don't trust your cardio then by all means you should find one with whom you can have a good relationship.
I'm sure you'll be glad you did. It's worth the paperwork to have a good doc that you trust.

By all means Jacqui, if you feel you're not being well cared for by your present cardio, then look for another one.

That is probably what I'll have to be doing here soon because my cardio has said & done a few things I'm not to comfy with. Ane too, he only sees his patients here in town two days out of the week because the other days, he travels to rural towns to practice there. I'm happy for those patients but what happens if he can't be reached if one of his patients here, has a life threatening emergency:eek:

Hey Jacqui. Not much to add that others have not already. It is important to have a good relationship with your cardio. Mine was not on the same page as my surgeon, did not see him once in the hospital, etc. so I dumped him. Much better now...Hope all is well.

I think everyone has pretty much covered everything. I would like to add that most surgeon's and cardiologist's qualifications, training, published papers, are available on the net for research. I always research the doctors before the doctors research me.

I wish you the best of luck, and hope you get well soon.

hi jacqui

it seems you had an ongoing issue with your cardiologist and medical treatment for a long time and you always have unresolved medical issues.

so of course you should change your cardiologist. but be aware of the possibility of "jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire"
