Hey, Melissa - I have no doubt you'll feel much better at lower altitudes. Because my mom lives in Evergreen I asked my cardio if altitude is a problem - she said that for the first year after surgery being at 8500 ft isn't a problem, but not to do anything that at that altitude (I know - it's different b/c I'm not acclimated; but she said that the heart hasn't recovered yet and I shouldn't be hiking or walking far or carrying stuff, etc. Shopping is OK).
My point being that getting down to Cleveland/PA altitude will be a big help.
BTW - congrats on your getting your surgery scheduled. I know you'll do so well. Once you're packed and back east make sure you have all the stuff you need for recuperation.
Betty: I certainly think you should get a wheelchair. I think that I'd have had a hard time doing that standing in line for long periods of time; and it's likely to make you light-headed. I'm sure that you're in the stage where you get horribly tired and simply can't do another thing and need to sit down. Starting out seated would sure be a better way to travel!
