I was diagnosed 7 years ago with Aortic Regurgitation, since then I have been monitored on a regular basis, at my recent visit to the Cardiologist she arranged for me to have a Trans Echo which showed that it was now time for surgery :( I have since had an Angiogram and I cant really remember what the Dr said as I had been given a drug to relax me, but he said he would be sending the report to my Surgeon Mr Paul Waterworth (UK) has anyone else on here been under him? my appointment has come through for Thursday 1st August and I must admit that after so long in the "waiting room" I thought I had accepted that I would need surgery but now it is looming closer I am a little scared. I have followed several people on the forum who have been in the waiting room and have reached the other side and I am filled with hope and optimism at their outcomes. It is good to have somewhere to express hopes and fears.:D

maisiejane-For me the waiting was the worst...even on the day of my surgery, waiting in the prep area was difficult...as you see on this forum, there are many of us who've been through this in the past. You'll do just fine. Looking forward to seeing you in the post surgery forum!

Joe

maisiejane,

You will soon be recovering! Please give us updates and remember to stay positive and keep looking forward.

Mike

maisiejan,

Reading this forum is the only thing that really helped me through the fear of having surgery. Educated yourself, believe in your Drs. and just go for it. Funny on the actual day of the surgery my family was way more stressed out than me. I had done all I could do and it was in my Drs. and his staff's hands. All went well and I am 9 weeks post surgery and it is surreal that I actually had it done and am doing so much better than before I had my surgery. You will get through it all fine and we are all here cheering you on! Go for it. Hear from you on the other side of the mountain. Keep us informed when you go into surgery!

Thanks for your kind responses.
Kim believe it or not I have followed your story of your journey and I have felt reassured by your experience of OHS I will post regular updates and let you know what the surgeon says on Thursday, Thanks x

i've known for 30 years that i'd need AVR surgery eventually. i was also surprised that the first week after i found out i had to have it "in the next month or 2", my blood pressure jumped and i had more of a reaction to it than i thought i would.

i also appreciate the accounts i've read on this board to give me an idea of what to expect and how to prepare. (there was even an account 3 years ago of a poster who used my exact surgeon - i was very surprised! but the results sounded positive, so here we go...)

good luck to you as well. :)

(by the way, my surgery appointment is still about 3 weeks away at this point. right now i've settled down a little but i know the last few days before surgery will probably be stressful again...)
