Thanks Elphie, for getting back to me.

I feel so much better now knowing someone who has personal experience with Doctor Moront and The Toledo Hospital.

I have an appt. today (9/21/2004) with Dr Moront. We will establish the actuall date for the surgery today. I know it will be next month sometime as we want to do this asap. My arotic root is 6.5 cm, which has come down some due to medication. But we dont want to wait too long to get it done.

I will post the date later today.

Thanks Elphie and to all!
Jeff

O.K. now you got my attention big time. 6.5! I certainly would not wait one moment longer. Your well into the danger zone for a rupture. I would take the very first date possible. Believe me, you don't want that thing to blow on ya. Been there, done that and I shouldn't be around to tell you this either, but I am. ;)

Ok

Ok

Hi, As Ross said we all have the same feelings, what you need to know is that you will be OK. I am now 6 weeks post op and back at work, I can't do a full hard day, come home and deal with the family etc. and still have time to rest and go for walks so I take time during the day for a walk or a rest. I am 44 and have 2 small children. You are young and should recover quickly. I tried to focus on my recovery and tried not to worry about the surgery, that is the docs job, they are all there to get you well and back home. I do not know the implications of your surgery but when I was in the cardiac ward most of the foks there were much older than we are and they were doing great some with vavle jobs and bypass operations at the same time. After going through the surgery I can say it is not as bad as I imagined. If you have any questions you can send me an e-mail.

Hi Jeff- I thought I would offer up my 2 cents worth also. I agree with Bryan that you should check out the Ross Procedure, too. It is true that surgeons will "suggest" the procedure they are most familiar with. I did research, discussed it wiht my cardiolgogist of 10 years, and found a surgeon I liked and respected who waned to do the Ross. I am a mother of a 5 year old, and it was the hardest part of the whole ordeal, my fears and anxieties over him. I told him my heart needed to be fixed, and the doctors were going to operate. When he asked wouldn't it hurt when the opened me up, I told him they were going to give me a special sleep medicine and I wouldn't feel a thing. He knew I wouldn't be able to pick him up for awhile, but we could hug and cuddle as much as ever. I was in the hospital the day prior to have my heart cath. He came to the hospital that eve to see me there before the surgery. I showed him the iv for the "sleep" med. That was it. They don't need any other info. Plain and simple. He was very open at his pre-school telling his frineds that his mom had "open heart". I will, tell, you though, the first time I picked him up again, I had a good cry! Keep us posted. And best of luck to you!

hi jeff!
i've been following your thread and just wanted to wish you all the best. hope you like dr. moront and what he has to offer.
we interviewed 2 surgeons, one who was on the surgical team that operated on former pres. clinton's and another surgeon joey ended up using. it made a big difference to joey (and me) what kind of person/doctor we were dealing with. the surgeon who came highly recommended was dry, preoccupied with calls and interruptions and was set on using only one type of valve. the surgeon we used spent 2 hours explaining the surgery, making diagrams for us to see, etc.
our kids were older and although we told them the exact, scary truth, i suspect it's quite different from dealing with little ones. many have given you sound advice with regard to that, i feel.
as far as valve selection, it's so personal. there really is no better or worse valve_ it's what works for you. either way you win.
please keep us posted as to how you are doing and how your doctor's appointment goes.
all the best, sylvia
