So do we need to use sunscreen more on our scar from OHS than any other part of our body? If yes why? Thank you.

Yes, sunblock for the first year is recommended. If you don't, your scar can turn dark.
John, it's a good idea to protect it from the sun for the first summer anyway.
If you are concerned about chemical products on it, just wear a tank top. Oh, and maybe some pants too.

Haha, no, I mean like puplish brownish like the scar from a mole I had removed about a year ago. I didn't protect it from the sun, and I assume that's why it turned so dark. And I've heard on here that others say the same thing. Trust me - you don't want it to be purplish/brownish like my mole scar - not pretty! I posted a pic of my "tanline" the other day. I've been taping a piece of cloth over the scar when I'm laying out. Think I'll keep doing that this year, and I'm gonna look for some stuff called self-tanner that Jackie and others mentioned. I'll use that to blend in the white area (you'll have to see my pic to understand what I mean by the white area lol).

Yes I guess I will make an effort to sunscreen it. Normally I do not use any sunscreen at all. I also don't actually lay in the sun a lot.

Good luck getting that scar to tan after you've had it awhile. Mine won't tan, but that's true of other scars I've got as well. I was playing golf today and noticed an untanned scar on my leg where I got stabbed with a knife years ago... hadn't thought about that injury for a long time.

Sun should be in moderation, (1 hour or less daily for a few days a week has been my practice) and my scar 7 weeks post op is blending in fine with the moderate sun exposure and no sunblock.
Of my 4 drain holes, 2 have blended in, 1 slightly darker and one slighly lighter, but all fading nicely.
It, was a big joke initially post surgery, as I was given the true zipper closure of 54 staples ...but as it turns out this method may provide for the quickest and cleanest scar healing?
All is open to interpretation, but my scar at 7 weeks is no longer a big dea and is no longer a very scary thing.

My surgeon advised me to keep my scar out of the sun for the first year after my surgery. Living in FL, the sun can be pretty intense.
After nine years my drain tube scars are much more noticable than my main scar. Whenever people ask about them I say I got them in a knife fight. On guy at my gym actually believed me...

Mark, on the light side, i like the knife fight reference:thumbup:, would have served me well growing up in a mining town with a lot of tough guys in my youth.:angel:
For sun, very intense this time of year in our region, but like all things in life, moderation is the key.
My interpretation would be to beware of a day in the sun on a boat or by the pool shirtless and yes skin tone should be considered, if you burn easy before surgery, you likely will not want to take strong sun doses post surgery.
Time of year and all that available time makes it tougher for those recovering at this time of year in northern climate, where there are only a few months to shirtless weather and swimming.
