In addition to having valve replacement and repair of an ascending aortic aneurysm, I had a PE in 2005 and have had cellulitis in my right leg since 2001.
On Tuesday morning I woke up feeling seriously unwell. My temperature was over 100 and I had a case of the shakes. My right leg was hurting. In the afternoon my wife took me to the primary doc I see. My temp then was 102.7 and after the doctor examined my leg , I was told to go straight to the ER. On Tuesday night I was admitted to the same hospital I had OHS at in August 2008. After 23 days in JFK hospital last year, you can say my return this week was a big let down.
Bloodwork and an ultrasound discovered I had 1- A blood clot in the polipiteal vein of my right leg and 2- Another infection in the same leg. My PNT INR was monitored and ultimately my coumadin level increased to make it more theraputic so in order to fight the clot. For the infection, I was given veromoxicillen(sorry for the spelling) and this will continue for the first 10 days I'm home from the hospital.
The less said about my hosp. stay the better. After being lucky in my previous stays and never having a roommate, this time I had one and he never wanted to turn off the television or lower the volume. My sanity was severely tested. Good news, my roomie got moved Thursday after I said something to the nursing mgr.(90 minutes sleep on Wednesday night was the breaking point) I had the room to myself for 12 hours till another patient came in. He was a quiet type.
On Friday I got a nice surprise, my nurse was Izzy who I had when hospitalized last year. Normally she works 3 South aka as the cardio unit but was a floater that day. I liked Izzy last year , and she was as nice as ever this year even while I lost patience with having to wait 7 hours to be discharged after the doctor said I would be going home. Long story, but it wasn't Izzy's fault.
I had an echogram on Monday at my cardiologist's office. They were going to do it while I was at JFK till I told the US tech I had one only two days before. I'm assuming the results were good, because nothing more was said.
My poor wife, what does she get for September 18th, her 48th birthday? Both me and her mother just home from the hospital. Nanay had outpatient eye surgery on Thursday.
So I been hospitalized in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Oh and in all but the 2007 case, my admission took place in either August or September. I hope not to have a 'Groundhog Day' like repeat in 2010.
