When the roll was called this morning, did you notice Ross didn't answer? Yesterday I talked w/him early and he said he was having trouble w/his modem and might be off the cyberwaves and since he is not here, he must have been right. Now, we can talk about him, if you want and he won't know til he gets back. I sure miss that boy! He kinda keeps us on our toes, doesn't he?

Billy, didn't know ya'll had TV in Ireland 100 yrs ago - we didn't get it til the 50s. Makes you older than us!

Ross is a good boy, most of the time, but there was one day that he said ---- well, I can't really tell you, but he swore it was true!

He COULD be just pullin a trick to see if we would talk about him, you know. Billy could be right. And don't go protecting him, Bill - he's a big boy.

Bill, my son said this game isn't important because the noles are already down by 4 games and he isn't even going to watch it (well, except to check in from time to time). Are you rooting for the Bucs? Remember when they started in Tampa. They lost so many games, we were rootin for a record of lost games in a row.

We have to hurry up on the Ross thing and say all we want because he might be back sometime tomorrow and then we can't do this anymore - he'll be here to refute it all. And then he'll post us some balloons, maybe.

OK - fess up somebody what are 'noles' and who is playing what against who - Some of these nick-names and acronyms just don't translate to your 'international' members?

Today I've read about 'gators' and 'bucs' - we have people here on VR.com from TX, CA, NH, VA, OH, IO, and XYZ with AF, CHD, CHF, who have had a TEE, TIA, AVR, MVR etc. etc. and we're all on VR.com courtesy of HE and his wife MC.

RY is off with a sick MD and HL is just getting rid of her VR and everybody is having a HNY.

Billy, it must drive you crazy. Even us natives that do not follow the multiple sports events so popular here, have trouble.

Right now American Football is the big sport. Both professional and college.

bucs are a pro team from Tampa Florida the Tampa Bay Buckaneers-Tampa Bay used to be a big priate/buckaneer hideout/port. They still have a big celebration/parade every year. The stadium is even shaped like a priate ship of old.

'noles is short for Seminoles the college team name for Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL the state capitol and home to that University. Seminoles are an indian tribe that was settled in the swamps of Florida and have never signed a peace treaty with the U.S. government

gators is the nickname for one of the other big college teams in Florida from the University of Florida located in Gainesville, FL only a hundred or so miles from Tallahassee. There is a very big rivalry between these two schools. gator is short for Alligator and the stadium in Gaineville is called "the Swamp" home of the gators.

And so it goes, all these nicknames and sports teams form a language and culture all their own and foreign to many right here.

Bill in north Florida which is like a whole different state from the rest of the state.

Well, I think somebody's pullin my leg. First, I find out VR is 'down for maintenance and will be back in 5 minutes". Well, much longer than that - Did our good friend, Ross, put his ghostly hex on VR members so that VR was really here but we couldn't see it? Seems like reports have it that some were seeing the old format from original VR site and some not seeing anything at all. Ross, Ross, Ross - why, why did you do this? Just want ya'll to know that I can see it all just like it was last night -

Me, Billy, Gail, Zipper and a couple more were the only ones able to log on. Should have seen Billy pic. So tiny..We could have put nude ones up and couldn't see them Glad Hank removed that ....and back to old home..

With properly bowed head, I concede to Bonnie and Bill that their Dawgs are better than the 'Noles. Noles began well, that young feller dropped the long pass and the game for FSU fell apart. Toward the end of the game FSU looked like they knew how to play the game again - but, alas, too late. Dawgs beat us 26-13 and I stayed to the bitter end to watch it.

Cousin living near Tally says word is that Bobby Bowden would quit if team lost this game. We will see - guess he's groomin his son to take over? If he wouldn't recruit all those crooks to be team members, team might be better off.

(Billy, Tally is Tallahassee where Florida State University is. Bobby Bowden is the football coach who has been there since Jesus was here, so he's pretty old, but still good.)

Hi Everyone!
It's good to see everyone back this morning. When I logged on today I thought maybe I was dreaming last night too. Went from old to new back to old forum again. I'm glad we are all back in the old forum again. I hope everyone had a nice New Year's. Spent the day eating pork and sour kraut (did I spell that right) and watching football. Nice relaxing day with the family. The bad weather coming forced my in-laws to leave a day early. We were all having a nice time together. This time of year you never know what the weather is gonna do.

Here I sit at 4:54 P.M. January 2, 2003, shaking uncontrollably from complete and total internet withdrawal syndrome. I'm throwing off tics and have this strange twitch. I had to face the REAL world and tell you what, It's a scary place without the internet!

The Cable company tech was late, that's cool, $20 in my favor!
My good old friend, water, was the cause of my temporary demise. It got into the cable connection and dropped my modem signal levels to the point that the modem couldn't find anything to sync to.

I'm back to continue haunting and taunting all of you. Don't you feel proud?

We were all having twitches without you. It was a day to remember for sure. First of all we woke up this morning to a brand new purple VR.com homepage and we were asked to reregister and sign on again. I even rehashed my avatar to 50x50 as the silly thing asked me to do and Bonnie was elated that she had two posts and was first in the race, even ahead of Hensylee and Nancy.

Then we couldn't sign in at all for a while - it said five minutes for maintenance but Ann sat and watched it for three hours and nothing happened. We thought you had sabotaged the system so the girls all started talking about you behind your back since you couldn't hear them. Then by lunchtime in Ireland all went back to normal and Hank never even spoke a word.

Anyway, glad to know that your sick modem is now restored to good health and that you are back in full living colour. Now go read what those two said about you while you were gone.
