Just got back from my second trip to Disneyland since my surgery. I rode several coaster-type rides there, but avoided the monster "California Screamin'." I wasn't thinking of my valves so much as being a little bit of a chicken.

This is not the original article that I read but does give comparable g-forces. You have to remember that the recoil impulse only lasts a fraction of a second. If that level of force was maintained for even a few seconds I would wager the shooter would be in the next county.

There is no real fact in that link, however it is very interesting.
It is still just a statement from an individual.
When I get time I may do a search, you have really peaked my interest on this one.

Thanks,

Ben

I shoot a big-bore pistol for practice about twice a month. I usually walk away with a fairly sore palm & thumb, but no sensation anywhere else. Your wrist, arm, shoulder, etc. absorb the impulse and move around a lot. Now, if this was a sustained acceleration applied to every structure in the body, I would be concerned.

It is interesting as a Physics exercise.

Let me know if you find anything interesting. I have even heard of people suffering from detached retinas when firing a .50 BMG. However, that is a far cry from a typical hunting rifle or shotgun. I doubt one of those monsters would be very good for any of us.

As for the coasters, my wife is pestering me for a trip to Cedar Point so I will probably become a test subject myself soon.
