Proud father moment.

My younger son just turned five. Today he rode his two wheeler all by himself!!! I am so excited, he hoped on and rode away. He has some problems turning yet but as long as he could go straight he just kept going.

And now that I have your attention I am going to subject you to the details of our summer thus far. The wife and kids had been away for a bit over seven weeks. It started with a couple of days in Miami followed by a whirlwind 2.5 week tour of three cities in Colombia. Yes the one in South America. First we went to Cali and attended the baptism of my Niece, holding her made me reconsider trying for a girl? uhm did I say that out loud? She has the bluest eyes and the cutest smile ever. Then we went to Barranquilla for my nephew?s first communion and the other nephew?s birthday. And of course our final destination as a family was Cartagena, one of the most beautiful cities you can go to. I had to leave to return to work but the wife and kids went to El Guamo for another 2.5 weeks. This was definitely the highlight for the kids. Everyday they talked non stop about what they had done. They rode horses, watched the cowboys bring cows to the butcher and of course played in mud. The one part that had me slightly concerned was when they had watched a cow get slaughtered. The only comment they made was ?I thought there would be more blood? and nothing else. Apparently it wasn?t life altering, of course both my wife and I saw this type of thing growing up so I don?t know why I thought it would be a big deal.

We then spent a couple of more days in Miami, celebrated my sons fifth birthday and then went to Disney for a bit over a week. My little one had asked to go to Magic Kingdom for his birthday so of course we honored his request. He had a blast, the older one did too.

Of course after more then seven weeks away from home they were glad to be back. They pointed out every familiar site when we got close to the house. They spent the first day going through their toys and just enjoying the house.

That is today?s book, the abridged version, the full length is too long, hope you enjoyed it.

I envy you. I can only dream of doing something like that. Sounds like it really was a great time.

The boy has to learn to turn. Mine found out how after proceeding forward straight ahead into a sign.

I clearly remember when my dad taught me to ride without training wheels. Happy memory.

But sneaky! Glad you had such a nice time on your vacation though.

I was in Barranquilla when I was young and I'm still flabbergasted by the shrunken heads and mummies we saw in a small museum there! We also saw, in a little zoo either there or in Jamaica on the same trip, the only white spider monkey in captivity at that time and an enormous anaconda (dead), bigger than a telephone pole.

Family trips. Happy memories. But stay out of the museums!
