did anyone else get the letter today about Reliant going out of business, so the INRATIO machines will no longer be made or serviced or have supplies????

they say that TAPESTRY is going to take over, and will swap their new COAGUCHECK machine for the Inratio. WHAT THE HECK? does anyone have the new coagucheck?

am I the only one?

will they still make test strips for the hemosense inratio?

yikes?

I think Reliant is just a distributor for Hemosense who manufactures the INRatio (sort of like QAS). I do not think Hemosense is going out of business so the test strip supply should not be in danger.

Yes, I've been using the new Coaguchek XS since last October and like it probably as much as the monitor you have been using.

More information, pleeez

We just received our new INRatio on Friday. THis is surprising news. Will you please tell me the source of your inormation about Reliant bailing and the recall of INRatio monitors for CoaguChek monitors? Appreciate your assistance.

Reliant is closing their doors. HemoSense products will continue to be available to all INRatio customers through our authorized network of patient self-test distributors.

True, Hemosense will no longer be making the INRatio. On Aug 6th, Hemosense agreed to be purchased by Inverness Medical in a stock swap deal. Obviously the INRatio means a lot to Inverness and not continuing to produce and support the company's only product would be a waste of a significant amount of money. So we're probably going to be able to get supplies for at least a few years to come. :) see: http://ir.hemosense.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=258602

A few years is just not good enough for me...

A few years is just not good enough for me...

Thank you, Dr. Jeff. We have been in a quandry all day. Now that we know that the INRatio will not be produced any longer, we will be returning it as quickly as possible. You may have saved us a great deal of trouble. We just purchased it last week and have had it for 4 days. We purchased it with our own money.

We used the ProTime Microcoagulation Monitor since March 2001. Being able to get supplies for a "few years" is just not good enough for us.

Isn't Inverness the same company that bought QAS for 25 million dollars?

Many thanks,
Blanche

I'm getting very confused. I didn't see in the article that Jeff posted that the INRatio would no longer be made - but it's late and my eyes are a bit shot from computer work today, so I may be missing it. To me, it sounded like one of the reasons Inverness purchased Hemo-Sense was because of the PT/INR office and home testing products - the INRatio. Doesn't make sense that they would stop production of it. But strange things happen in corporate buy-outs.

Just where do those of us stand that have the INRatio?

There is every reason to believe that the INRatio products will be availabe for many years to come.

For some reason this doesn't make me feel better  With my husband being in corporate American, we've heard that many times and find that our "reason to believe" lasts for about a week before the other shoe drops.

Are they going to stop making the machine (as Jeff P said) and just make the strips? if that's the case, then it stands to reason that eventually the strips will be stopped as well.

I'm not horribly worried - if I have to buy another machine, I have to (I won't go back to lab testing). But I just love my little INRatio so much!!!!

I also am a bit disturbed by it because the US is already a step or two behind Europe in realizing the home testing is the way to manage INR the best. If one of the 3 machines offered goes off the market, it's just a sign that the US isn't very close to catching on to smart management.

Inverness is buying up everything. They are becoming even stronger. I really don't think Hemosense is going bye bye, it will only get better for all of us, if these guys play their cards right. Besides Brendon is an old resident of Ohio and has no desire to return here (If he's as smart as I think he is), so don't go returning your tools.

My Opinion

My Opinion

My opinion is:

Inverness Acquired Hemosense because they are already trying to get into the home INR testing market and Hemosense has an awesome monitor!

Inverness Acquired QAS because they have the kind of organization that nobody else has anywhere out there. They work with the patients, the suppliers, the regulators and all the other nonsense just to be able to get the business of distributing what we need to us. This is something that Inverness needed to strengthen their portfolio.

I really don't know much about the whole deals and goings on, but My hope is that the value of all of Inverness's new companies will allow the greater good of all to thrive and prosper in this marketplace.

There are HUGE issues with mis-information and many misconceptions out there that need to be overcome. Inverness has the clout to be able to help turn things in the right direction.

I also think that this means great things for VavleReplacement.com. We will go on providing the service that we do with or without anyone. We have functioned on our own before (quite well actually) and we could do it again if we need to. However - My true belief is that Inverness will recognize the importance of how we are improving and effecting peoples lives at this level. There isn't anything in place within Hemosense, QAS, Inverness or anywhere alse on the web for that matter that caters to the heart valve replacement patients personal, emotional and social needs. Not to mention the human need to speak with others about our issues and have questions asked and answered. We do all of this right now every second of every single day and while we do it well, we have so very much more areas which we could improve upon.

It is my hope that this merging of companies and services will be the starting point for something immensley more wonderful than what we have already accomplished.

Thanks to all of you members for your part in making this a great service to offer,

Hank Eyring

My sincerest apologies for the misplaced use of sarcasm. Yes, the INRatio will continue to be made by Inverness after the buyout of Hemosense. The INRatio and it's test strips are the only products of Hemosense, and the success of the unit was the reason that Inverness bought the company. All of us (me included) should be comfortable with the company changing hands as the new owner will do everything within its power to see good come of its investment - and that means supporting the current as well as future users.
Again, I take a 'mea culpa' for any confusion.

Ohhhhh. I read the article and it just didn't make sense that they would stop production. It's what they do.

I feel better - thanks for the clarification Jeff!
