The surgery went well on friday and I was released from jail (hospital) today. The only complaints is the pain meds horrible on the stomach, stiffness, and nerves about the coumadin. But, everything went well.

Have you tried eating with your pain meds? That might help.
As for the coumadin, its nothing more than a vitamin pill that you take everyday in around the same time. Its nothing more......heck I still gag on mine and its been ......what.......16 months. But do your best to relax about it.......after all thats why we are here

The stiffness you are feeling is normal, but do try to SLOWLY and carefully to stretch them arms and keep those shoulders back, its so easy to bring them forward when your in pain.

Aja,Good to hear your back home and surgery went good
Sorry your fighting with those pain meds though don't know what
your taking but maybe you should see your Dr. about changing
to something that better acompanies your tummy,instead of suffering.

Hello All:

thanks for all your posts. The pain med that they sent me home on is darvocet. I just have a sensitive stomach but i will get through it. As I keep getting told, the hard part is behind you, this part is a piece of cake.

I actually ate a little more today ( i was not eating in the hospital, but in order to be released, I had to agree to eat and drink well.) my inr was only 2.1 but they are confident that once the coumadin is regulated my numbers will be between 2.5-3 and then my hemoglobin was only 8.1 but i refused a blood transfusion so they have a nurse coming for a 3-4 times while i a out)

I'm glad to read that you're home, Aja.
I don't think post-surgery is a piece of cake; it can be darn difficult!
I too have a sensitive stomach when it comes to pain meds, so Tobagotwo suggested I ask the doctor for tramadol. I did, and it was a much better pain reliever and more easily tolerated by my digestive system.

You posted for me when I came home so I can do the same. Sorry it took me so long to find this but I could miss my head sometimes if I closed my eyes. We are only a few days apart post op so I am only a few steps ahead of you. One thing I do know is this sure knocks the @#%& out of you! Try to eat! I found a plum to be the first thing that appealed to me. Tart skin, sweet inside, no WIERD taste after each bite on 1/2 my tongue. JUST KEEP TRYING. Drink LOTS of H2O and keep up the walking. I also read about the Pillow Fight thing in the other thread. If it was one of those real BATTLE ROYAL swings, then I could see the problem. I bet it was more like a LOVE TAP if you be true to yourself. Just dont stress this. You made the decision and I hope you did the homework. The coumadin is NOT the EVIL some make it to be. I even shaved, WITH A REGULAR RAZOR, in the hospital and NO ONE said a word. I also shave my ENTIRE HEAD with the same REGULAR RAZOR the past two nights while home. No bleedouts or nuthin!
Here's one thing to worry about. I dont know if you have heard the non existent "dripping water" in the bathroom like I have. IT"S NOT THE SHOWER! I sat at the kitchen table yesterday and watched my wife try to figure out where the water was coming from. Pretty Funny!
