Been raining all day in the North Georgia Mountains.. Lots of tourist here for the 3 day holiday....Maybe the sun will come out tomorrow?...I'm thinking of all the members in S.C...N.C. Virginia....New York and up the Eastern Coast. must be a washout for yall. and Maryland too. Bonnie

We got some wind and rain from it, but it only lasted about half the day and then things cleared out. Still cloudy as heck, but no rain or wind.

Hi Bon

LOADS and LOADS of wind yesterday. Matter of fact, Tyce is out raking up leaves and sticks in the front yard. Rain, too, but we were really worried about the wind. Had planned to go to Maine on Saturday, but the ferry wasn't running and we weren't taking any chances, so we're off to Maine tomorrow. The worst part is that the Hampton Classic....a premier horse show in the "beautiful Hamptons" really suffered this week. Looks like the Grand Prix will go today, but it was baaaad this week. I just pity those poor horses living on the grounds in tents......UUUGGGHHH!!!!!

Hope everyone has weathered the storm.

we have had 62 early mornings the last two days with a tiny whiff of fall in the air. Early for us. What about y'all?

Acorns are falling, squirrels are stripping the pine cones, dropping the centers on the ground. My cat watches the squirrels all year long, but especially now. She never catches them - I think they just play with her and she plays with them sort of like friends, tho they never meet face to face. Dogwood leaves are paling and some orangey leaves on other trees. Are we in for an early winter, you think?

Were beginning to have some leaves fall and there are some on the trees now, beginning to change color, so fall is certainly close at hand.

Acorns have been falling for over a week now..over the back deck. I have to sweep everyday...strange..I looked and saw only 1 oak tree..You would think they would all be gone by now. As I sit here typing..can still hear them.Pinging........I have had 3 squirrels all summer. They were born in a nest behind my house. Watched them when they were tiny..My Rufus is the same way. he hides behind the birdbath..while they nibble corn I feed them about 2 feet away. They could care less about him:p Ann..why do they strip the pine cones. never heard that before?..Yes, I felt that same little whisp of Fall the other day...I know we are ready for it..been a HOT summer. Bonnie

there is a seed called a pine nut in between each pinecone 'leaf'. In spring they strip the green ones and in fall they strip the ripened ones that are left on the tree. You can buy those pine nuts in stores. When I go out in the yard, there are the centers of the pine cones (looks like a stick), with the 'leaf' sections of the pine cone, all scattered about.

There is a HUGE pine tree near the house and when they are harvesting the cones, the occasionally drop one on the roof. Sounds like a bomb! Scares us to death. The tree must be 200 yrs old by now, biggest one I have ever seen.
