I go into the hospital next Tuesday, August 22 for a cath and a TEE. I have never had a TEE. I welcome any information. Thanks.

Well it just so happens I just had a TEE last week. You go in and they give you an IV and relax you. They give you some numbing topical medicine to hold in the back of your mouth for as long as you can, then you gargle it and swallow it. Little bitter but not bad, then they give you some ursed(IV medication) that makes you drowsy and has some kind of forgetfgul serum in it. Then you wake up and it is all over. The ursed won't let you remember anything. Piece of Cake EZPZ. Good Luck and Relax.

Hi Marilyn, will just add my 2 cents about the TEE.....It really is not a big deal...just as Randy says. You will most likely not even remember it. And you get to sit up for this one...they may also ask you to turn to your left side while sitting up in the hospital bed/stretcher. Once they drop the versed or other med into your IV you won't know a thing until you are awake wondering when they are going to do your TEE....

Take care,

Marilyn,

So sorry to hear that you need surgery so quickly and are so stressed about it. I have not had surgery, I'm still in the "waiting room" so I can't offer any first-hand advice but I did want to offer my best wishes to you. I know it sounds easier said than done but I hope that you can calm down a little before your surgery. I think it would be better for you in the long run to have the surgery now from what I read the others say and being calm and relaxed is always better.

Take Care!
As I said you have my very best and you will be in my prayers!

I hope that you are doing ok today. I wanted to tell you that I had a TEE on Thursday. Everyone has described it perfectly - which is a help, because you will know what is happening as it is happening. You are lucky to have this site - because all that you are going through can be explained before hand - I was so glad that I had already read about the TEE.

I wish I had more to tell you. I am new here too. Just relax as much as you can - ask any question you can think of here - and close your eyes and picture how great you will feel when your body is able to function properly.

I will keep you in my thoughts - as many others will as well.
Take care of your self;)

Thanks for explaining about the test. For me, it is always better to know what is happening. I am down to 2 days and can't believe it will happen. My symptoms have are getting worse quickly, so I know I have to do something. I have chest pressure, hard to breathe, and now it is hard to talk. It feels like an effort. It is amazing how fatigued you get. I try to keep going. I feel like I have so much to get done before I go. I know that sounds rediculous. I went out to eat last night with my son and had fun. He has a lot of humor. Randy, I appreciate everyone trying to help me.

Thanks for the information. I thought that I had sent a post, but honestly I am forgetting everything. I will let everyone know how I do. Everyone has been so good to me. I am getting everything ready to go. I will probably have lots of questions after the operation.

Hang in there Marilyn, I hope you bought yourself something nice. You will be on the otherside of the mountain very soon feeling great.

I don't see the posts that I typed in on this site. I want to thank you both, and I want to be sure that Rachel knows how much I appreciate all her help too. I will not be posting until after the operation. Thanks again to everyone.
