Thanks Bonnie and Nancy for your replies. It is a bit like the Sword of Damocles. One minute I feel really positive then the next minute things look some what blacker. When the Doctor originally said he was going to refer me to the surgeon I felt relieved that a decision had been made and I did not have to think about all the possible scenarios.
As far as racing is concerned, I just want to be able to race again at some time in the future . I few weeks ago I thought that once I had a valve replacement my running career would be over. After reading some of the posts in this forum, I see that this is not the case. I do not think I will do the race next June even if I have not had the replacement. This run will take a lot of my time (months of extra training) and it is a "once in a lifetime" event for me. I need to be fully focussed to do it. The Doctor said I can still race, so I will keep to the shorter, easier ones. I do not want to rush back into racing and risk damage. Thanks Bonnie for your comments on Donald Dewar. My head can sometimes race to false conclusions without knowing what the facts are!. I am glad I mention this as this worry has now been put to rest. The newspapers in England seem to distort stories to make them more sensational.
I am married but I do not have any children. My wife is also a runner. I live about 20 miles north of Manchester.
Thanks again
Martin
