Hi, been awhile since.I.was around the forum. Will have to get myself up todate.

I want to get back in the gym and back on the weights, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any ingredients or vitamins I need to steer clear of. Don't want to take any supplements that could upset my blood. Docs given me all go aerobically so going to up my training level.

I've got a mechanical valve and take daily warfarin.

Just noticed lifestyle section, my apologies if an admin could move the thread be very appreciative.

I bought a jug of Creatine a little while before my OHS/AVR, mostly to help my left calf/Gastroc recover its full strength after I tore that Achilles tendon about a year ago. But I've held off using it, mostly out of concern about my LV, which built up some extra strength and size and thickness to compensate for my leaky and stenotic BAV, which has not been replaced with a new piggy valve. About a week ago, I had my second post-op Echo Cardiogram at my Cardio's office, and he said it showed that the LV was already losing some of that extra size and thickness, which is good. I'm nervous that Creatine might "push the other way", and I'd be building up (or not losing) LV mass and strength while trying to build up LCalf mass and strength.

If your supplements are really just high protein (and not "fancy stuff" like Creatine), I'd be surprised if they pose any special risks. Some cardios and cardio surgeons are wary of weight-lifting, especially with heavy weights. Others, not so much. You can see some discussions of that Q if you search.

When it comes to supplements, particularly herbals, you should google the name of the supplement and warfarin to find out if there are issues. Keep in mind that many, many products will indicate some type of interaction - a lot of it is CYA. However, if you find some interactions in the products you're wanting to take, perhaps discussing it with your doc would be recommended. Other than that.. common sense would be in order - and maybe starting out slowly and testing to see what effect there might be on your inr.
