Very impressive!! .... I'd like to say don't push yourself to hard and fast but that advise means little from one who takes a cab to the bathroom:D ... Keep up the great recovery!!

yes, i carry a cell phone. not sure how much good it would do in a crisis.
speaking chinese is hard enough, but speaking during a heart attack or
panic situation? and then they don't have one single emergency 911
number here. they break it down into four emergency numbers: police,
fire, ambulance, and pizza delivery. i asked what to do if you have a
vehicle accident, car on fire, with injuries? make three calls.

and all the long walks (and the long bike rides for now) are along bus routes
with 10-minute service. no establlished stops other than the end points,
busses will stop when flagged down, and would make a detour to the
hospital if asked.

well, you sound very confident in your jaunts around the countryside and so far you are doing well. just don't trip on a rock and fall over! I am sure you are being careful about building your strength. Best wishes in your progress.

Your life is very interesting and we love to hear from others who are on an adventure. Pictures from other countries are great for us so send them on when you feel like it.

yesterday was day #43, and celebrated six weeks by bicycling around town and out
to the dam and the nearby village for a bowl of noodles. yummy, this portion came
with bits of liver and intestines which looked like little rolled-up condoms. chewy and
bland so maybe they were.

some discomfort using a hand pump to inflate my mtb tires, but manageable.
rode on gently rolling low-traffic roadway for a bit over two hours, with a
half-hour lunch break. total ride was 30 miles (~50km), average speed of around
15 mph, maintained heart rate at 125, with occasional spurts to 130-135 on the
few short slopes.

sternum felt good, no pain, but a little tight last night. taking today off, and will
do some track work tomorrow.

today is #48 and returned to the track. the local fauna have gotten used to me
and are not staring quite as much.

started out with 6 x 1/4 mile, 2:10-2:30 pace. felt good, and heart rate was within
range, so after a longer-ish cooldown, ran 2 x 1/2 mile, 5:10 and 5:30. as slow as
i was running, still passed a couple of the students.

followed with some stretching, and failed attempt at a few pull-ups as i was too
scared to put much weight on my arms. but did manage 15 girlie push-ups without
any sternum pain. i will pay for that tomorrow. girlfriend is out of town, will surprise
her with the good news when she returns.

about to head home for some leftover curry, but a little voice told me to keep going.
this time ran a full mile in 10:15. think i'll hold at this distance for a few weeks.

cold front coming in, will be mid to upper 50's all weekend, 50% chance
of rain. good excuse to stay inside, rest, watch dvd's.

50s is a cold front? It's been in the 20s and 30s since I got home. today almost hit 60 but it's windy as hell. It's hard to keep an excercise schedule with crazy New England weather...

It might have hit 50F in upstate NY today. It wasn't windy when I started out at noon, but it got worse as I went along. Still a big improvement over the last two months. Except now there are filthy mud puddles everywhere. Can't go on any bike paths yet since there can be up to 4 feet of hard pack snow in places.

here we are at day #51, very cold 15C and overcast. more track fun:

4 x 1/4 mile @ 2:15
2 x 1/2 mile @ 4:45
1 x 1.0 mile @ 10:00

cutting coffee consumption, and possibly the colder weather, has had an effect.
easy walking HR=90, recovery walking lap down to 95-99. jogging HR seems about
the same, but hard to tell. HR monitor was not working well due to lack of contact,
no sweat on the sensors. water/other helped some, but didn't seem to read
correctly when jogging.

Don't you mean 15F?

nonononono! i said very cold.....15C is very cold.
[see: "50s is a cold front?"]
i hope this near-freeze doesn't affect the mango trees lining the streets.

if i meant extreeeeeeeeeemely cold, id'a said 15F.

excellent....we're going to have a near freeze (below 65F!) the rest of the week,
back to a chilly 70F by saturday. what a great excuse to stay inside and take
a break from exercising.

hey, i know cold! i even had my very own pair of carhardts!
used to do field engineering in northern indiana in winter. -30F is not fun.
