Thanks for all the support. We had hot dogs for dinner last night, and my wife will be home this afteernoon before we go off to soccer practice...

I was playing with the spirometer last night...

It turns out I heard the nurse wrong, it's not an "incentive" spirometer, it's an "inspiration" spirometer, where "inspiration" is not the motivational term, but the medical term - the opposite if "expiration." I won't even go into the puns on the word "expiration" that immediately come to mind...

As for whether or not the spirometer and I will stay friends...

I've been told that I have a higher-than-average lung capacity for someone my age and size. My doctors have speculated that it's because I played low brass instruments in high school marching band and have almost continuously sung in a choir since my early college years. I take just a little pride in my breath control (though it's been off a bit lately), and I'm not willing to give up my control or capacity just yet! I'm planning on singing at Easter Vigil (though not in the choir because I'll miss several practices), so that should provide ample inspiration for inspiration (OK, sorry, that pun just crept in  ).

Hi Dale,
I just wanted to add my thoughts/words of encouragement for your surgery Friday. I will be going out of town Thursday - Monday night so I may not be able to get online but I will keep you in my prayers during your surgery and after care.

It is amazing how much comfort we find in the routine things of life. Last night was my son's baseball team's first game. It was so much fun visiting with different friends that I have met from work, church, school etc. and getting to hang out and visit during the baseball games gives you a real sense of community. I had a hard time not supporting some great plays by the opposite team as well as our own team.

You know it is so awesome how the medical team selected for your procedure will be there for you every minute of the way.
... As well as your heavenly team guiding and directing every moment. I know you will be in great hands...

The waiting is nearly over.... face boldy the beginning of a new life! :)

All the best Dale. Enjoy your "showbag" full of toys while they're still "fun"!! :D

Hope everything goes well.

Cheers
Anna : )

Dale - Good luck with your surgery on Friday. I was done on a Friday also. You will be fine and successful, but I will say a prayer to help.

Dale,
I wanted to give you a proper send off before you take off for the hospital. Remember how many of us are behind you in this and how we'll all be anxiously awaiting word that the deed is done and you're doing well. Best of luck!

Dale

Just wanted to join in and let you know that we will be praying for you. Marvin is on his 7th wk post op and has started rehab this week. Keep us posted

I see the wife signed up. If she needs to call me, you have my number. What ever is more convenient for her and the family.

Good luck and Good Journey! See ya on the other side.

Dale,

My nurse called it an incentive spirometer, too! I think that's because you're supposed to get the float up to as high a level as possible. Suz thinks it appeals to the innate competitiveness of all guys. ;)

I glad your wife signed up - we'll look forward to hearing from her while you're in the hospital. Good luck and best wishes, Dale!
