Sounds like our envoy to Afghanistan needs our prayers. Tear in aortic wall and a 20-hour surgery, yikes!

Is a "tear in the aortic wall" the same thing as a rupture of an aortic aneurysm, or something different -- anyone know?
Sounds more like an Aortic Disection than a rupture.
Very few (<10%) survive an aortic rupture.
He was Very Fortunate to have suffered this 'tear' where there knowledgable Doctors were able to properly assess his condition and get him to a knowledgable and skilled surgeon (i.e. it's good that this didn't happen in a remote area or somewhere over the ocean).
This hurts.
It serves as a reminder that we are all vulnerable, and no day should be taken for granted.
