Thanks everyone for your continued prayers and well-wishes. She is still doing well. The pain meds are doing their job thus far. Her main complaint has been the chest pain that the breathing tube was causing her. They just removed it a few minutes ago. She was surprised about how much pain she felt while breathing immediately after the tube was removed. I'll keep everyone here posted until she is up to posting herself. Your support and friendship has meant a great deal to her as this date approached.

Thanks again!

Keep on them about keeping ahead of the pain. If she begins to get nauseated, make them switch to something else or give her something to control the nausea. Nothing worse then throwing up right now.

So far, so good. They have been very attentive to her needs as pain has increased and have not hesitated to provide relief. She rarely gets nauseated from medicine and so far time is no exception. We will keep an eye on it though. Thanks for the advice!

Try to be there for her as much as possible. I know you need rest also, but honestly, some not so nice things can go on when visitors are no longer around. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the tip. The first nurse that she had tried to get me to leave by telling me that they usually limit visits to five minutes. My wife actually contacted the patient advocate office prior to the surgery to talk about these concerns and obtained permission for me to stay overnight. Aside from leaving for an hour to get something to eat, I have been with her the whole time. I didn't get any resistance from the nurse when I came back and all the rest of the nurses have been very accommodating to us. Our plan at this point is for me to stay with her in the hospital until they move her from the ICU, which is supposed to happen this afternoon/evening. After that, I'll have to split my time between home and here.

Good deal! It's great that you were allowed to stay.:) Do they have computer access there or are you having to run home to post updates? Don't get too tired; you will be incredibly busy once she's released and you're caring not only for a wife but also six children!

I'm with Ross, and keep an eye on that nurse who said something to you. I don't care how officious they are in a "just the rules" attitude, stay with her regardless. I have seen way too much to trust that everyone taking care of her is an angel. Hopefully, that is the case, but human nature and my experiences tell me differently.

All you have to do is think of how many different ways there are to raise a child, some excellent some horrific. We don't know the background and mores of the people that care for us in a hospital setting. And that is when we are the most vulnerable.

She needs you to be there whenever you can. Daytime is probably OK, since there is a lot of supervision then. At night is when nasty things can happen. Staffing is lower, not as many supervisory people, not as many doctors floating around, and just not enough eyes on the subject.

Hi, everyone, it's me. Well, as my husband said, it sounds like my surgery went very well. They left me sedated for an extra five hours. Thank God--I found out pre-op that they planned on leaving it in six hours after surgery. Yikes!! They took it out around 45 minutes after I woke. it was bad, but not as bad as I thought.

I had a great nurse last night. The two I had today were pretty good, but I got frustrated when they wouldn't let me sit in the chair. THey kept saying they would, but kept putting it off. Turns out, they wanted my central line out and were waiting for the hospitalist In the meantime, I could have sat in the chair and been right back in bed, because the guy still isn't here.

Fortunately at the morning shift change, I got a great nurse. She got me on a liquid diet, FINALLLY, and got me sat up. The only bad thing is that she's making me take my nap in the chair, which is very painful. She gave me meds though.

My husband is eating breakfast. He got the laptop set up for me before he went. I'm drinking water now...I am soooooo glad. I was so dehydrated, and was getting nauseous from not eating. THe nurses earlier didn't take into account that I'm breastfeeding. I feel much, much better having eaten.

Terrific news!. So glad things are going smoothly for you. Sometimes we do need to make pests of ourselves in a nice way with the nurses. Thank your hubby for keeping us posted and I hope you continue to improve each and every day.:D

glad to hear your recovery is continuing well. Wow -- breastfeeding in the midst of OHS! You deserve a gold star for that!!! Thumbs up!!! Hugs & prayers for a smooth recovery.

Good to hear from you and that you are well. I haven't been on here much since my sis has been staying with me,so I missed your updates until now.
Your husband and you both are real troopers.
My best-Dina:)

Wishing you a quick and easy recovery and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Take charge of the situation and always remember--it's your body and you have right to tell them how you want to do things. They may not like it, but at the very least you deserve to be heard! Take care and wishing you some deep sleep--it can make all the difference at this stage of the game.

Jane

I've been getting some sleep. It's hard though, because I'm so sleepy all the time. My pain got out of control when I stepped down, but it's better now.
