Has anyone had post pericardiotomy syndrome? I woke up with chest pains and a temperature Saturday morning and had to go to the ER, have tests done and spend 2 nights in the hospital. My cardiologist diagnosed it as PPS after the tests revealed there were no blood clots or infections. He has me on prednisone to reduce the inflamation around my heart. Has anyone had this keep recurring? I hope it is a one time thing.

I have not had my surgery yet but I do have chronic constictive pericarditis after many ablations. This can happen when the heart and the sac{pericardium}around becomes inflammed and fills with a little fluid, what your describing is not extremly commom but it is defiently heard of,mostlycancer patient recieving radiation next to thier hearts develope a chronic case of it.Do remember this that it is not chronic until you have had it for six months straight ,so I think right now besides the pain and fever just sit back and take what your dr orders.
I have had mine for two years now and on chronic pain med, because of my bad valves[pre=surgery}they had to take me off all anti-inflammitories,and this really helps it alot,if you are still having pain try some motrin or advil to go along with the other meds.My dr also uses prednisone, but also have started a daily dose of methotrexate.Hope this helps dont be extremly worried for this occurs ,though keep an eye on your fever mine runs 101 most of the week, but when you stay high you can pick up infections easily.Good luck!

Nicole,
Thanks so much for the information. Good luck with your surgery. I'll be pulling for you.
