Hey guys just wondering if any of you had dizzy spells/lightheaded after surgery. we are at almost 3 weeks post op and seem to get them often, once or twice a day.

Yes, I was very lightheaded and dizzy after surgery. I even had one terrible dizzy spell about 3 weeks after my surgery which I could swear to you that the room was spinning AND tilting at the same time!! But my BP was averaging 80/60 all the time and I was on (a very very low) dose of Metoprolol.

Once I got off the BB and started to gain weight, I was back to normal.

I'd call your doctor and explain your symptoms to them!

@ Gribur i am glad to hear you made it through and hope you are doing well.

@ Gribur i am glad to hear you made it through and hope you are doing well.

You are the most important guy to me on here as i am travelling to London to have the surgery by DR Guo (he is going to do the robotic surgery on me). He told me i should be able to drive within 2 weeks and fully healed with 6 weeks. So i assume you can give me feed back on how the surgery went and the recovery(so i know what to expect). I guess i will have to call DR Guo office to see when they plan on doing the surgery. I requested that they wait till after august 26,2012 as that's my grandfather's 100th birthday celebration and i also have my 1st wedding anniversary on august 12. I live 45 minutes south of sudbury in a little town called Noelville. I am classified as 18% disabled from a back injury from 20 years ago although i never let that stop me from moving on with my life and pushing my body harder than i should. My concern with the full sturnotomy was that with my sturnum comprimised, how am i suppose to get out of bed, off the toilet etc as i was tought to cheat with my upper body strength to manouver my body and not throw my back out( i am 6'1'' and pushing 400lbs). When i throw my back out and the nervs get pinched, i go through hell. Unbeleivable shocking pain that stops my heart, my lungs and everything through my nervous system. I could not imagin being stuck in bed with that and then throw in the heart surgery and try to recover from it all. There are days when a guy would just rather end it all then continue with the pain but thankfully those are few and far between as i have learned when i am in danger and prevent it from happining.

Take care of yourself and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I apologize for the spelling mistakes and i feel like i am hijacking your thread.

I will tell you the DR.Guo is very soft spoken and very caring. Do your research on here and that way you will not have many surprises. I was still hit with a few but nothing awful. I am now almost 3 weeks post and am super tired which is bugging the crap out of me as I hate not doing stuff and am still sore, but the incision is quite a bit smaller then i expected which is nice. I am trying to keep moving which will definately help you. Make sure they are well aware of what medications you take for pain prior to surgery as they will give you that plus whatever else is needed. They would not let my wife stay overnight so If possible have someone there first thing AM and as late as possible to keep track of meds given and at what times. There were some nurses that will rock and make you feel great and they love the job and do it well, on the other hand a few of them tend to slack and will let you fall behind on meds which is not good at all and if you are already on meds you may forget when that pill was due and suddenly be hurting, that will be your reminder but by that point they need to play catch up which is fine for everybody but you. The beds suck for your back. I am pretty sure my back pain from my injuries were on par with the incision pain. I learned to sleep on my side very qickly as it helped and didnt use a pillow as it kept my body in a better position, so I raised the head a bit and then raised the legs a bit, lied on my side and fine tuned until it was manageable. They wil put nice warm blankets behind or under your back if you ask and it helps a bit. I think the best thing to do though is sit up and stretch as best as you can and get moving asap even though it is a pain, it will help a lot. You are in great hands with Dr Guo and although he may not be there everyday, be assured he is always checking up on you. If you want any more info let me know, send me a PM or whatever, I will do my best to help you out.

How long before you could finally go home? I'm hoping to be 1 of the fast one's to be able to go home. I have heard off guy's being able to leave by the 4th or 5th day but being so far from home, i fear they might keep me longer.
