My cardiologist tells me that I don't need a 6MO post-op, that I can wait until May or June 04, since I'm feeling fine. I've called his office several times since the surgeon released me in July, and each time that's what I've been told. (They office in the same complex.)

What is the usual time frame for post-ops?

My father-in-law had to see his cardiologist every 6MO, but he had a porcine mitral valve. He got tired of hearing "You're doing just fine," so he decided to skip the visits, since he disliked doctors. Big mistake -- valve went, so did the tricuspid. Also needed aorta patched & 4 bypasses in same surgery. Was in CHF pre-op.

I don't want to be like my father-in-law.

I just want to avoid unnecessary visits, expense and time, since the cardiologist is 1 hour a way. My PCP has been doing my Coumadin monitoring, but I've gotten a ProTime, need to get trained on it this week.

Congrats on being really well. Offer him a alternative pick a date half way. The normal is at 6mo out, then again a year from then ,and yearly there after. That is pretty much what they hope for. They do ajust as they see fit. But if your uncomfortable do as I suggest. Oh one other thought...keep in mind your not your dad.
