Well Ross, I would say that there is a definate purpose to your life, and there are a lot of people here that don't want to see one part of that interupted.:)
Wishing you well---RAM

Ross,

Suffice to say that we all think you deserve your little surprise. :p

For all of us bit-heads out here, we need to know the details about your new toy; the brief glimpse we got of the box in the video just won't do.

Compaq

120gb HD
DVD drive
CDRW drive
Flat Panel LCD monitor
1/2 gig of RAM
AMD Athlon (2.8ghz I think) chip

Let me get it up and running, then I'll load my friend Belarc on it so you can see everything and more. ;)

Me thinks you better fasten your seatbelt while driving that new Compaq. Appears to be a real mean machine.

Ross - You are a terrific guy. There's nobody more deserving than you. Enjoy the COMPAC.

But Ross doesn't like Compaq (or eMachines either, I think).
Ross was basing his opinion on Compaqs of old. Since HP took over, it's pretty much an HP in Compaq clothing. They don't give you the XP CD though. They put all the stuff on a partition on the hard drive, then expect you to burn a copy. I do hope the ones I made work when I need them to! So far, so good. I still can't get over how much dead weight junk they put on it. It's going to take me a while to figure out what all should stay vs what should go to the recycle bin.

Congrats Ross

Congrats Ross

Ross,

Congrats on your new "ride". You deserve it for all that you do for us. Of course your last pay stub from VR will reflect this. Ha !
Enjoy Ross, and thanks again...:D

You are the man, Ross. You deserve it.

You are the man, Ross. You deserve it.

Ross, without you I think we'd be missing some of the important "glue" that we need to stay together as a group.

Glad everything worked out the way it was supposed to.
It's wonderful to see everyone pulling together, whether it's
this or during everyday correspondance.

Keep well my friend.

Hey Ross I was only kidding a little. I know about some of that Compaq spefic stuff. A friend wanted me to load 98se on their old Compaq and the drivers were just not available, it was a mess.

As for your disparaging remarks previously about eMachines. I think the ones I have dealt with are pretty good bang for the buck and pretty much industry standard parts. Its like AOL, I hate it and don't go near it but for some newbies it is probably the best answer, so, I recommend it and then go to confession. The eMachines are a really good low price way to get a pretty powerful computer.

By the way, if you need CD's Office Max has specials nearly every week that are free or nearly free after the rebates. I am getting a closet full just because I can't pass up a bargain.

You have virtually unlimited space so why worry about all the junk products they put on the machine? XP will want to move unused icons to a hidden folder if you let it. On the other hand XP's use of disk space is pretty strange. I wiped an eighty gig drive clean only to find that about 2 gigs were not released and could not be seen when told to show ALL, hidden, and system files. It seems to have a mind all its own. But, recovery after adding misbehaving software and finding out it creamed the machine is worth its weight in gold.

XP's video editing is for the birds. If you want to do that get a free or cheap copy of Ulead's VideoStudio. But that will use up your hard drive faster than you can believe, glad hard drives are cheap now.

Glad you are getting on with the new machine.

Best to you guy.

Ross, I am so new to this site but I so enjoy reading your postings. You make me laugh out loud. I guess that's what LOL means! Duh!

I'm sure there will be a special star in your crown in heaven. You are such a inspiration to us all. Keep up the great work.

I wish I could have been in on the surprise and what a wonderful surpise it was. :)

Love and God Bless, Glenda

Thanks Glenda. I keep telling everyone I'm no different then any of the rest, but I seem to be talking to alot of walls. No one believes me (Well maybe Hank does now).

It's hard to retire old bessie. I think I'll stash her away in a closet for a rainy day project. Some day, I may actually be able to fix all her ails, but I'm afraid by then, the next Microsoft Operating System will be released. (Scheduled for fall of 2006)

Bill it sounds like you've got alot of the experience I could use in learning this OS. I might just bug you if you don't mind?

I think I can sum it up. . .

I think I can sum it up. . .

In a nutshell (pun?), Ross is not necessarily "Ross" -- he is THE ROSS, without whom vr.com would simply not be the same.

Use the new machine well and long, brother!

New Pictue

Hey Ross , How would you like to change my picture. I ask Hank so wks ago But he has had his hanks full I'm sure. My daughter decided to use the worst one she could find. There are better ones of me and my husband from the Chicago reunion. There are two close upof us. I think the last one is the best. I think the best one is where you can read his name tag(Mike Hutt) it is aalmost the laast one on the sight. This will give you a chance to use your new toy!:D Thanks for any of your help!
We Love you keep up the great work!
