A elderly lady came in the restaurant yesterday with her two daughters. I could tell she was not at her best as she was moving very slow and a bit wobbly ... I noticed a fresh sternum scar so when they sat down I pulled up a chair ( I can be pushy:rolleyes2:) and asked her what type of heart surgery she had had. A bit surprised she asked how I knew and then lightly touched her incision. She was just six weeks out and I could see the concern and fear in her face and hear it in her voice about her lack of progress. I shared my story with her and assured he that at six weeks she was making good progress (going out to eat etc.). I explained that I was nearly a year out when I noticed I had recovered fully and was better that ever ... I think I left her with a renewed hope.

May never see her again but my surgery and recovery was worth being able to see the smile and hope on her face... peace out

We become somewhat complacent over time but just as you experienced, there are a lot of people who have not shared the support that the VR community provides us. I think that just a little contact with someone who has shared the same experience must provide some comfort that things will get better. And what is the worst that someone might say when you ask? "Bug off!" So far, I've only found people who were happy to talk about their recovery. Keep on being pushy.

Nice work Mr. Chimp. And not only did you make her feel better, you gotta know that you helped her daughter's, too. Our families go through so much anxiety and uncertainty even after the surgery is over. Your support and good health were a perfect antidote to their current, wobbly experience.

Well done!

Cooker ... that is SIMPLY awesome. It's so cool when we can relate to others ... and make a difference in their lives, whether we see them only once ... or a million times ... or, in some cases, never at all (i.e. communicate via forums/FB/Email).......
