How about Harpoon just takes responsibility for posting a crappy thread.

How about us letting him know that he has to play by the same rules as the rest of us.....

Since Harpoon doesn't seem to be available for comment, probably the fastest, most direct way to communicate with him is via PM. Oops, maybe email.

But maybe you don't really want to talk to him, you just want to talk about him?

Mary.......

He started the thread. I would even venture to say he started the thread in great anticipation of the responses.

I?m not the type to go running around in the background crying to Ross, the thread starter or whoever.... in fact I think that?s pretty nasty.

Hey Harpoon,
I have a Great Idea, why don't you don your SCBA and don't turn the bottle on. :D
Take Care

Well duh---

I guess the Saudis need us and other countries as well. Let's not forget they are in BUSINESS. They are not giving their oil away. They want MONEY for it! They do need customers. They just love to squeeze us for political gain and leverage. But if we are less reliant on their oil, and start to produce more of our own, we'll be much less vulnerable to this kind of hard ball.

At that point, I believe you'll see oil prices coming down with a thud.

What the entire world needs is an alternate source of fuel. Oil will not last forever.

This country's economy is growing, and it isn't just cars that need fuel. Industry does as well, and uses much more than vehicles do. That's why consumer pricing keeps going up, it's industry driving it.

All of us need vehicles. Whether your car uses two tanks of fuel for a total of 60.00 dollars per week, or my SUV uses 30 dollars of fuel each week and a half matters very little in the long run. It's a spit in the ocean compared to what industry uses.

You're never going to make the Saudis little sweeties by purchasing a tiny car. It's a fool's paradise to think so. They're political, they'll always be political, they have nothing else to sell but oil, so guess what? That's their only leverage.

But never forget, they DO understand business.

Oh, and the hand in hand stuff is cultural protocol.

I've been away for a few days. It pains me to see us bickering over something that has nothing to do with valve surgery. There are lots of places to go and chat politics. No hard feelings (but perhaps a little food thrown across the room) :D

I guess the good news is that we are all above ground.

Other than that, all I have to say is
GO MAVERICKS!

Give Ross A Break!

Give Ross A Break!

I can't believe anyone would start a thread like this when Ross is going through HELL. MY GOD people- can we give it a rest for his sake and just cool
our collective jets so he can have some peace and quiet!

Hey guys - remember the "why can't we all just get along thread?"

I wish I had the ability to lock threads because I would this one. There is way too much nastiness going around. I kind of thought we had all agreed (most of us anyway) to disagree back after the election.
Respect is what this site should be about. Respect for EVERYONE, not just those who share your views. Respect means no name calling, accepting others and their lifestyles even tho you may not like them, and probably keeping politics out of VR.com. OK - off my high horse. God knows I have had my moments but I have learned my lesson.

Harpoon, dear, what were you thinking?

This is why there's such a "crisis" over censorship in television, film, and radio...

No one knows how to change the channel, how to turn stuff off...

Apparently viewsw are only allowed to be shared if they related to valve replacement (or at least some form of ailement) and no other aspect of our daily lives...

Just kinda curious is all.

I love the back stabbing, keep that stuff coming, it's great.

As far as trying to post while the powers that be aren't looking, I had no idea Ross was dealing with other issues outside of this forum and I do apologize if what I've said upsets him in some way. I'm sure he'll let me know that PRIVATELY when he comes back.

See that's the thing, there were a few biting personal attacks in here and while I'm not going to say no to those, I do think they should have been done privately rather than become an open attempt at stoning in the streets which only serves to drum up a mob sentiment among others who really aren't paying that much attention to the core issues that started the problem in the first place.

And for the record, I HAVE seen SUV's rolled over. I've seen people who've been hurt pretty badly. I NEVER made an attack against people who own SUV's, I don't think the vehicles are safe based on what I've seen personally at accident scenes, that's all.

Oh, I'm not certified for SCBA, nor do I have access to that kind of gear so I'm not going to be able to kill myself off for you fyrftyr, sorry.

Go ahead, lay into me some more, sounds like we all need a little time to vent and relieve some stress...

Well, Bush is for the rich like himself anyway.

For clarification, what do you consider rich? I'm a teacher and my husband is an aircraft mechanic - how much more middle class can you get? Yet, I know that Clinton considered me rich when he was trying to "balance the budget" and I surely wasn't getting any advantage from his ideas. However, I did benefit from the changes to this year's federal income tax, particularly the one where I got to claim sales tax, which is very high in Houston - 8.25%. Since we don't have state income tax, we didn't get the benefit on the federal forms that most people do.

I live in Texas - a big state where we tend to drive a lot and sneer at public transportation. I used to commute 70 miles RT, but now commute 20 miles RT and consider myself very lucky, so an occasional 50 miles sounds like nothing to me. I drive that far to take my daughter to cheerleading practice. My husband still commutes 70-80 miles roundtrip, but he drives a Mustang with a stick. I drive an 8 cylinder Dodge Durango with a Hemi - a big SUV. I often have 5, 6 or 7 people in my vehicle, numbers that won't fit in a small car, so you'd have to drive 2 cars to get those people where they're going, thus using more gas. That's why I drive an SUV. Living in a big city, I've had the sad experience of witnessing many wrecks. Small cars don't hold up very well when they roll over, get sandwiched, or slide under 18-wheelers. How can that be safer?

Harpoon

In Canada most of the price per litre is TAX, not the basic price of oil

and

China and India are becomeing major consumers increasing demand.

So maybe gas prices have a less political component than increasing demand.

I don't find hand holding in public with same *** couples offensive--but Bush with the prince is another matter entirely.

Just my two cents worth.

Cheers

I thought when you started a thread you expected responses to it.... in the forum.

Have a great day, Harpoon. :) Try not to start any fires. I'm outta here.

I would be very pleased if we were able to engage in civil discussion of politics and other controversial subjects on these forums. There are many mature and well-informed people on these forums and I would find it entertaining and enlightening to discuss controversial and important subjects with them.

While the irrelevance of controversial subjects to valve replacement is often cited as the reason why they're inappropriate, clearly that is not the case: Most of the topics in "Small Talk" are irrelevant to valve replacement. For one of but many many examples, would someone care to explain to me the special relevance that the "Marriage" thread has for valve-replacement patients? [BTW, I rather like that thread]

I think it's that some, perhaps a lot, of the folks around here find disagreements to be inherently upsetting. Even if the disagreement takes the form of civil discussion - the only form I should think is acceptable - a lot of folks still find it upsetting.

Too bad that those who find disagreements upsetting don't simply avoid threads on controversial subjects. Why such a person would even open a thread with the subject line that this one has is quite beyond me. But to acommodate to them, it appears that the rest of us must restrict our general conversations to, well, small talk.

Although gotta admit I'd feel pretty poorly if I found out that I'd given someone a heart attack by raising a contentious topic!
