.....Those two plastic tubes (looked like good quality stuff--packrat that I am ).....

This pack rat has you beat. I still have my old Bjork-Shiley valve (explanted in 1994) sitting in a jar of formaldehyde in the back of my fridge. Just can't bring myself to throw it away.
