Just got off the phone with Zipper.

She saw the doc this morning (Thursday) after some freezing, the doc removed the rest of the toe nail on her big toe and took X-rays.
Low and behold, Zipper broke her first toe and cracked that nail but did not break the big toe  but that first toe is now very black.

Doctors rules are to soak it once a day with 2 tablespoon of Epsom salt and peroxide. Apply an antibiotic ointment, wrap it and keep it up.

She's has to wear an open toe booty of some kind for at least the next 2 to 6 weeks, which should prove interesting, the forecast is calling for snow for the 15th.

All this damage was done by a bed frame and even with this fancy booty on, she had to go and whack the same foot again tonight on the same corner of the bed frame. In Deb's word's "thank goodness I only felt the vibration". Her hubby will wrapping that corner with foam real soon.

Throughout all this pain and discomfort, Zipper is in really good spirits, just shaking her head on how all this happened.

She'll try to post herself tomorrow, but for now she's going inflict more pain upon herself and wax her eyebrows.

thanks for that. sounds like she'll be movin slow for the next few weeks.

I vote that hubby take out the bed frame and just put the mattresses on the floor.

Freddie:

Thanks for checking on her and giving us the update. I'm glad she got it taken care of.

John did the same thing in May 1996, just 2-3 days before we were to fly to Boston to attend our oldest niece's graduation from Boston U. I told him to go to the doctor; he didn't think he needed to.
Instead, while my sister & I attended Holly's two graduations (double degrees), John stayed at the hotel. He limped along while we toured New England for a week.

He had broken TWO toes but never went to the doctor. They healed very crooked. Later, our doctor said he would have to have them surgically broken and reset -- if he wanted them to appear "normal" again.

Darned bedframes!!!!!!!!!!!!

This might help Deb. WHen I broke my toe, that dumb shoe they give you at the hospital knocks your gait off so I cut the toe out of inexpensive tennis shoes. That way I could wear the same height shoes. I feel for her, I know it hurts. Hope it feels better soon. Thanks for the update Freddie.

:p
Maybe Deb was chasing hubby....???
Heal up soon. :)

hee hee i'll never tell the truth lol

Well i just answered a post on act and occupation never had a problem
with employers etc

Will gotta problem regarding occupation....GOTTA WEAR FULLY COVERED
SHOE on my foot:eek:

Strict order soooooooooooo go figure...gotta figure what i am doing by
3 pm tomorrow for coverage of this foot

Anyhow hurts like heck. Not the nail loss but the broken toe even in
a comfortable open toe shoe
I dont get too grumpy but today was limit...i guess cus at work im
limpin cell checks and then get back to desk and knock on door

Thank-you Freddie for updating my condition here and bedframe is
now foamed up like my toes;)

I just am very afraid of infection, all id need am also on antibiotics
keeping big toe clean and babying it alot

I'm waiting for my wife to do the same thing. Not a day goes by that she doesn't jam her toes into something around her. I keep telling her I'm going to get one on those snow plow blade markers that the drivers use to judge where the ends of the blade are and attach it to the tip of her shoes.

I agree! Having unequal heights can set off a bad back too. I even had to be careful what shoes I wore when I was on a knee scooter for what seemed like forever. I needed to have straight posture or I would soon be paying the price.

I missed the original post, not haing been around for a day or two as I put my back out . . . geez, zipper2, my father would say you are a disaster looking for an area to happen in :D

Now, if doc has said open-toe shoes for a few weeks, and work says full shoes, I think doc wins in this case - get a note from him saying you can't wear fully-closed shoes ....

Better idea i'm thinking i should put foam on all toes for
extra safety reasons or better just constant wear of (steel toe)
Poor Lynn i know how she feels.I really have gotten accident prone
since moving my parents up here and we still have to move them
into their place on the weekend, wonder what body parts i will injure
they are only on 12th floor of their unit:D

This crossed my thoughts and is what i did I mean i only take size 7
in a shoe ,but they wont let me stick out like a worm in an apple
i have to be toe covered completely so they never said i couldnt wear
two different shoes meaning ones size bigger, sides i take it off at my
desk cus it darn hurts and anything on top of my big toe even with room
still hurts bandaged and covered

I do have just reg shoe heights its smaller broken toe anyway and is taped
to the nailess toe......Good grief i sound like an alien here:D
