"Open Heart" - the movie, Academy Award nominee!

I just discovered this short subject documentary today. It was nominated for an Academy Award this year and is still making the rounds of film festivals (so unfortunately I can't see it yet). I thought some of the folks here would be interested too:

It's so sad to see that many people in third world countries die from a completely fixable problem every year. The doctor in the trailer says 300,000! They are also raising funds for the heart center - where it costs just $2500 per operation.

Think of how many rifles $2500 can buy. It's a sad world we live in.

Thank you for sharing this information with us, Michele! It is indeed truly sad that so many people in 3rd world countries continue to die from such a fixable disease.

Very sad indeed...this looks like a powerful documentary. I hope it is available on DVD.
