I had a co-worker years ago who went head first over the handle bars of his bike. Broke both arms and was in hard casts for 2 months. He had to have someone help him do EVERYTHING (even pee  )

So, you are actually very lucky. Please take care and we will remember to forgive any typing errors.

Special splint makes things MUCH more comfortable. Only really hurts now when I go to bed...

Sorry to hear it, but it sure beats OH surgery. :) Hope you heal quickly and are back on that bike soon.

Goal: back on in 4 weeks or less!

Sorry to hear about this, but thats a nice bike you've got to look forward to getting back on....

Normally you tend to make a whole lot of car drivers day when you fall off at the traffic lights, tend to your physical scrapes/bruises and then realise that 20 people are laughing their heads off - so you have to slink away with a large bruised ego. Sorry to hear that the physical side of things was more serious in your case.

Nice bike though!

I know I will never get on a bike with those kind of pedals! Why do they have them anyhow? Is it a common problem for feet to slip off the pedals when cycling?

What race am I riding that I need this? WHAT WAS I THINKING? :)

Betty, I'm sorry to hear of your continued problems with that shoulder. Hope things get resolved. Yea, I'm still having a tremendous amount of pain in the whole left shoulder blade area. I've had so many scans and such and can't get an answer. Don't know...

MitralMan,

Isnt it a great feeling to get back on your back after surgery? so what if you fell off?

My first time on the bike after surgery was almost like first sex after surgery (only a few weeks later) it was VICTORY!

But why start with clippless on a new bike? BTW - if you oil the SPD a bit they become much smoother to escape. I found that out *after* taking my fall on a technical mountain trail.

Tomorrow I am going for a ride, I will think of you.

Clipless pedals allow you to pedal more efficiently. Rather than just pushing down, you can also pull up on the backside of the stroke. It takes some time to learn the proper technique, but I figure they add at least 1-2 mph to my speed.

For serious bike touring, racing & triathlons they're great. If you're just cruising aroung the neighborhood, then no they probably don't make any sense.

Mark :)
