Tommorrow is my big day Mitral valve repair after 20+ years in the waiting room. I just found this site a few days ago and it has helped to take the edge off reading post by other in my position. The stress is pretty tough but I have alot of family support and now this site also.
A little history about myself Im 39 yrs old male married with 2 daughters 10 and 12 Ive had MVP most of my adult life. At first I was headed to Clevland about 5 years ago but I was not bad enough yet. This past year my symptoms have been getting worse palps, short of breath, regurg and enlargement .
My Cardiologist recomended it was time to get it done before any damage. The surgeon said I should bounce back quick due to my age. Im very active I hope he is right. ML

I also was diagnosed with MVP over 20 years ago. I should be quite a ways from repair/surgery, if ever. Here's hoping you have a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Best wishes.

Best wishes for a very boring surgery and a speedy recovery.

I felt soooooooooooooo much better immediately post-op (yeah, other than the sternum having been split open!) because my heart was finally working correctly.

emjay,

Glad you were able to find this site - loads of caring, support, and information. Best of luck with your surgery & recovery. Take it easy when you get home! We'll be looking forward to hearing from you.

All the best; you'll be home this time next week and well on your way to a new you.

Wow thanks for the support i hope I can give back as much. I feel at peace. I talked on the phone to a guy I met fishing of all places and out of the blue he brought up that he had the same surgery 2 years ago that I am having tommorrow. I guess you get what you need when you need it.
Ill post as soon as i get home .

This bears repeating: I believe in small miracles, not coincidences.

Sounds like "someone" is looking out for you. :)

I Made It!!!!

I Made It!!!!

Hey, I don't know if I'm using this site correctly, so give some direction if not. This is emjay's wife. He asked me to let everyone know that he is doing fine and really appreciates the support before his surgery. When they took the breathing tube out, he said in his very frail voice "I made it". He is doing very well. Lot's of pain but no surgical complications. The Docs told me that because he is so young, his nerve endings are much more sensitive than they are with a person who is much older. I feel helpless and wish I could take the pain from him. Today is day 2 1/2 and he is doing great. The meds for pain made him very sick to his stomach. Each hour is different but he is certainly on the road to recovery. My worst nightmare is gone now. His new beginning is now here. Life is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting...Hope he is able to get up and walk..even with the pain. He needs to..to help him get rid of the nasty drugs he got during surgery.. Even if just half way around the nurses station..He will feel better each day...I know the girls will be glad to have Daddy home, but he needs some quiet time. Lots of naps during the day..some walking in house the first week...(when he comes home)..and then maybe a little outside in yard..No heavy lifting..Not even bending over to pick up anything. Takes 6 weeks for his sternum , bones, muscles, cells, to fall back into place. Let us know when he gets home and if yall have any questions..Bonnie

So pleased!

So pleased!

I'm very happy to hear everything went well! Within a couple of days he'll be ready to go home and little by little, he'll be able to return to his normal life. Keep us posted!
