Are you ready to apply for the surgical tour guide program now? ;)

Randy,

You are amazing. So happy to hear from you and hope you are doing even better than you sound.

Looking forward to more details.

Keep yer feet up when you post. Don't give 'em excuses to put the special socks on ya.

Glad you're back, even to the point of posting, no less. You're a pro at this now, so you won't need a lot of preaching. Keep us up with how things are going.

Very best wishes,

Wow, welcome back over the mountain Randy! :D Here was I all ready to write a reply to Robyn, and you're back yourself already! Way to go!

Like everybody said, breathe, walk, rest, remind Robyn to rest too!

Gemma.

You should soon be home.

You should soon be home.

You were lucky to find a computer to use. I had to wait till I got home.
You seem to be doing great!!

Hello all,

Things seem to be progressing well so far but they really did beat me up again. When they were performing my TEE postop they pinched my lip between the breathing tube and the TEE line. HUGE fat lip that still looks horrible and feels even worse.

They pulled the chest tubes Friday and warned me that it is usually more painful the second time. It was. Nearly sent me through the ceiling.

I'm still taking percocet, not so much for the chest pain but because I get a horrible headache if I don't have it. I have a feeling I am going to have a bit of a problem with withdrawal.

Haven't heard when I will be discharged yet. I am running a low grade fever which they say is probably just lung congestion.

Randy

They'll boot you out the door just as soon as your ready. Most likely tomorrow or Tuesday. Any advice for people thinking of having surgery more then twice?

Glad to see you at the keyboard again, Randy. I hope these are all little bumps in the road and you will be posting a dismissal day soon.

It is an ordeal that I don't care to repeat again, especially when I am older and less resilient. Hopefully I've prevented that.

Oh yeah. When I first awoke in ICU I instantly started gagging on the breathing tube. Both hands went up to yank it out and I quickly had two linebacker sized interns charging me. They really don't like that!

Victory Wave!

Victory Wave!

Randy and Robyn,
Don't forget to give a wave as you pass by NW Ohio on your way home!
We are all so very happy for you. Have you got your INR machine testing yet? Have a safe trip home.:)

Randy--

Did you not notice the breathing tube much first time around? Nathan barely can remember it now. He could remember things for the first couple of weeks, but they have really began to fade now.

Nathan has been home testing his INR since Oct, and he is so happy he has it. Gave him alot more freedom, and also espec good if you are going to be on some heavy antibiotics for awhile....

Did they say anything about the valve or vegatations?

Take care and get some rest! And I know you just love that little spirometer....

I've only had one OHS and that was over 14 years ago. I can tell you that I STILL remember what that breathing tube felt like. They had to tie my hands down because I was going to rip that puppy out!

They are doing routine cultures on me but no word of an infection and I haven't talked to Dr. Pettersson postop yet to ask him if they found any vegetation or just artifacts from the failed repair. He did tell my wife that the valve was completely shot this time with no chance of a repair.

I'm working on getting the machine before I leave. We'll just have to see.

When I first woke up in Mayo, I do remember the tube but don't remember fighting it. But I woke up very gradually. This time it was like, BAM!, I was awake and ready to heave ho.

Randy, so glad to hear things went well. We talked about you at breakfast on Saturday (me and Gina and Sherry), wondering how things had gone.
What room are you in? Are you on g-10? Great nurses there. Tell them I said hello!
I can't believe he had you done in 90 minutes. Sorry you had the "I want to pull this out" experience in ICU with the tube. I don't remember being restrained, fortunately the only time I remember gagging on it was when they deep suctioned me right before they pulled it out. I do remember motioning that I wanted them to swab my mouth because it was so dry right after surgery, and I don't remember being restrained. I must have been a good girl and not acted like I was going to extubate myself. Ouch, that would hurt!
Keep us posted--I wish they had let me leave on lovenox!! I had that doggone heparin drip.
