Hi,

My surgeon who has never implanted an On-X before has ordered an on-x valve for me upon request.
He mentioned to me that upon his enquiry he has heard that the Vascutek grafts on some tissue valves had some problems. He wasn't sure if it applied to on-x valve with vascutek grafts but said he was just passing on an information he had heard.
He said he prefers carbomedics with graft which has good track record but if I want on-x, he is happy to do it for me.

Has anyone heard about vascutek graft problems before?

I am day 36 post-op with an ON-X Valve with attached graft. My entire Hemiarch was reconstructed. So there is a graft attached to the valve and then additional graft material to complete the reconstruction of my Hemiarch. I have had no problems so far. My research told me that the ON-X valve was the best.
I am very happy with my valve choice. My recovery is going smoothly!

Thank you for the responses. I think Vascutek has produced an attached graft for a number of valve companies including St Jude, Carbomedics etc.
Probably what surgeon mentioned was an isolated case.

I have had the On-X with attached graft for 1.5 years now and it seems to be functioning well. I am very active in cycling, running, hiking, kayaking, swimming and manual labor. During my last cardio checkup 2 months ago, he said I was doing great and wouldn't need any more echos for now. My surgeon didn't like working with the material, but other than that, he said it was fine.

I have had my aortic On-X for 2 1/2 yrs now. My surgeon constructed his own graft when he installed my valve.
So far, no issues with the valve or graft.

I just got an on-x valve. And my ascending aorta was replaced. They did not use a graft conduit for me because the surgeon wanted to keep the coronary arteries intact.

Where is your aneurysm located?
