Hello Rib 305---I am 8 weeks post op and and I had the night sweats several times in the first month. They have cleared up since then.I also had no temperature with them.Sleeping was very bad for me also, just couldn't get comfortable.I can see where with the lack of sleep and finally falling into a deep sleep you could possibly whiz in your shorts.Hope not to often or the old lady will whack you with an oar.

Yah, I wouldn't add worry to your worries. The first few weeks, almost anything can happen, especially when it comes to sleep patterns and the way you feel. Do the best you can, and wait for the cultures. Most people DON'T get BE, but most people DO get some funny feelings that make us WORRY that we've gotten it. I sure did! ;) .

sorry to hear about your troubles.....if you are still on pain meds maybe they are causing you to get into that deep sleep where you wouldn't wake up to use the washroom?

Disturbed Sleep patterns are VERY COMMON for several weeks after OHS.

MANY of our members reported sleeping about 3 hours at a time at all times of the day/night.

NAPS are GREAT :))

Hopefully it will settle down an a couple of months (or so).

Could you have a bladder infection? If so, it would be good to catch it early. Hope you're okay. Best wishes :)

Night Sweats

Night Sweats

The night sweat thing is pretty common in the weeks, sometimes months after surgery. I think it's the body's way of getting rid of some of the chemical stuff they use during OHS.

I wouldn't worry too much although I know how one's mind can think the worse. I had endocarditis and there never were any symptoms. They found a small spot on my 6 wk echo and then ran the blood cultures. So as long as the docs are keeping on top of it and testing then try to put your mind at ease.. I know it can be difficult but try not to worry.. we are all here to support you.. take care

Rib, at three weeks, you are at the point were incisions are healing up and your body is just beginning to adjust to your new heart function. I wouldn't worry too much about disturbance in your sleep patterns since this pretty much happens to us all. I would add my voice to Lilly's suggestion that you get checked for a possible urinary infection. After my AVR, when the catheter was removed, it was not done very professionally which resulted in bleeding for several days. I know that at the time there was real concern about the possible development of a UTI. A urinalysis will quickly identify an infection. This is also important because some of the bacteria that can cause the UTI can also cause endocarditis if they transfer from the urinary tract into the blood stream. If your doctor has not already checked, I would encourage you to call and express your concern. It never hurts to check, especially, if the check is quick and simple.

I took a few months for my sleep patterns to get back to normal. I had a hard time falling asleep and would wake up two or three times a night to pee, had restless legs, extreme anxiety, etc. I feared going to bed. It gets easier, I can promise that. As for blood tests things take a while to get back to normal. I had high liver enzymes, low red blood count, and a bunch of other things that were off. But the excessive urinating at night did go away and I was tested for UTI and bladder infections. I considered that perhaps my kidneys were on high alert from all the drugs in my system and were just clearing me out more often, I don't know, thats just my theory.
