On Thursday, we are leaving on a two month travel trailer trip to the North East. A 90 day supply of warfarin is going with me along with my ProTime System. I have a 90 days supply of 4mg and 5mg, so I can very the amount of warfarin from 2mg to 10mg with only one or two pills. I normally take 9mg five days per week and 10mg two days per week. Re: Traveling with Coumadin

My PCP advised me to ALWAYS take my meds in a CARRY ON Bag. She had several bottles of vitamins and supplements removed from her checked luggage! That could be DISASTROUS for a Coumadin Patient, especially if traveling to a remote location or out of the country.

I had my medicine bottles that were in my checked luggage opened when I went to Florida. Apparently they didn't care about putting the caps back on, they were just thrown back in the bag. When I opened my luggage I had pills all over the place. The airline received a call from me and they were very apologetic.

I know that this ain't warfarin and I don't have a valve BUT I had a melanoma about a year ago. I saw my PCP in the hall and he had me come over to his office and he cut out about 1 hour later. I take aspirin and obviously had no time to stop it. Then I was supposed to have a wider margin taken to prove that they had gotten it all. This was to be on Tuesday. On Saturday I thought about stopping my aspirin to cut down on bleeding. The dermatologist who did the second surgery complained loudly about my not stopping aspirin long enough. Both times I had my shirt on that I was wearing to work that day and neither time was there any blood on it. I looked at the sponges etc after both procedures and could see no difference. Bleeding seems to be very subjective.

Remember my poll from a few months ago? Patients fear clotting and doctors fear bleeding!!

Mile High,

Are you planning to attend our meeting in Golden in October?

Hope your surgery goes/went well.

Al,

I hope to be at the reunion, depends on work tho. Surgery was yesterday, I will update everyone after a few days. Another interesting surgical experience and all went well. Ended up with a skin graft from behind my ear. Kind of tired and not yet sleeping well.

Thanks for your concern.

I plan to be there on Friday and to give a talk about warfarin on Friday night.
