is anyone taking Niaspan (niacin therapy for cholestoral/triglycerides) - my doc put me on it, problem is he told me to take a aspirin (which i'm going to get my INR checked tomorrow) and i was wandering if the aspirin is a have to or can i take my tylenol if side affect symptoms occur.. i really don't want to add one more pill to my mix, let alone aspirin... any sugestions would be great..

thanks
christine

Hi Christine,
I take Niaspan too. My doc told me to take an aspirin 1 hour before because it somehow makes it so the Niaspan doesn't upset the stomach. Tim

Hi Christine,
My wife was put on Niaspan for a while.
She was given the same reason Tim said about the aspirin.
I guess you also can expect some flushing with it like a hot flash.
It also requires monitoring your blood every several months if I'm not mistaken because it works thru your liver from what I remember.
Although she is now on different medication for the cholesterol she did switch from Niaspan to a non-flush Niacin from our local nutrition center. She liked it better and it was cheaper and no prescription needed.
