Thank you everyone for your good wishes but we have decided to postpone the surgery to Monday and are meeting with the surgeon again tomorrow to go over our options now that David will also need the ascending portion of his aorta replaced, possibly to the root. We were going with the On-X valve but our surgeon wants to use a St. Jude's combo valve if the root needs repair (he will go with the On-X and the dacron graft if he can save the part of the aorta at the root). After doing some research here and emailing with AL Capshaw (thanks, AL!) there are a lot of questions that we have for the surgeon before we will feel completely comfortable. I will post more details tomorrow after we meet with him.
Got to run - David and the kids are waiting for me to play cards (not too often that teenagers agree to sit down and do anything with their parents - maybe it is the impending surgery!
It's very comforting to go into surgery with all your questions answered so I think you made the best decision. You can't go wrong with either valve. The St. Jude is excellent also. Hope your surgeon gives you the answers.
Just put the new date on the calendar, but Nadine you'll need to remove the old surgery date since you placed it on the calendar.
Good luck with the appointment!
Mary, I removed the old one (for tomorrow) but can you change the one you put to read "David's rescheduled surgery" (it now says "David'swife's rescheduled surgery")? Thanks! Nadine
Best wishes for an uneventful surgery, whatever the date turns out to be. I went thru QAS too, and they were pretty good with me. My insur. paid 75% of the monitor.
