Hi,

My names is Cal and I am 8 days post op after fitting of a mechanical valve and replacement of sinus of valsava. I only had an op in November last year where I had a bovein valve and AA fixed.. The mechanical valve is really doing my head in but I am still here so thats a start... I am only mid 30's and now on so many drugs it is unbelievable... Its been a rollercoaster few weeks and now the recovery starts again :(

I just found out about this site pre op so I am going to have a good read about extremely noisy and annoying mechanical valves haha

Good luck to you. If you don't mind my asking, what happened to warrant two valve replacements within 9 months?

Originally I had an aneyrism (sorry for spelling) and bicuspid valve, luckily by mistake a month ago after pamekaer fitting I had an echo which showed that the sinus of valsava had enlarged to 5.8cm... over 2cm in 8 months so I had to get it fixed. I went mechanical as I hope now that I dont have to do all that again.. they reckon I have a genetic defect to make it happen so quickly so I am waiting for appointments to get this looked at... I just hope that now there is no other bits wanting to get close to dissection...

Welcome Crazybass. I believe in a relatively short time, the valve will become much quieter and less annoying. This is a fantastic site for anybody who has had, or will have, a valve implanted.
