Hi my name is Brad 32 years old and am awaiting a date for avr in july. Just wanted to say how great and informative this site is. I would like to thank everyone who contributes and say if it wasn't for this site I would be a lot more stressed out than I am now. I am receiving an ATS Valve at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane Queensland. Dr Tesar is doing my Op and have heard he is a very talented surgeon. Will post my date when I receive it. ps thanks again for all the info.

Welcome to the site Brad and be sure to post your date when you get it so we can put it on the calendar.

My husband has the ATS valve also. His surgery was 3 1/2 years ago. His latest echo in March showed trace leakage(about the same as for any 55 year old). His surgery was at Emory in Atlanta and his surgeon was Dr. Puskas. Good luck on your surgery.

Hey, Brad. Welcome to VR. You are right that there is lots of information here and we are learning more all the time. Have you noticed that we have several members from Down Under? Let us know as soon as you know when so that we can put your name on our calendar of upcoming surgeries. Blessins.....

Welcome

Welcome

Hi Brad

Welcome to VR. Com

So glad you found us, I had my AVR in Jan 2002 and found the site 6 months before, and it helped me so much

It really does help you come to terms with AVR when you can actually speak to people who have had surgery, you do not feel so isolated

We have a saying here it is * The waiting is the worst " and it is

if you have any questions ask them and you will be given honest answers by people have experinced AVR

I am sure some of our Australian members will be along too say Hi soon
I think we have about 4 or 5

Take Care

Jan ( Liverpool England)

Hi, Brad -

Although it sounds like your visit to The Waiting Room will be brief, welcome to THE place to learn all that we want to know about valve surgery, valve conditions and the related medical things. I'm one of those "almost-middle-aged" dudes (now 57) who know surgery is in their future but aren't sure exactly when. This site has been the ONLY way I have been able to cope with the many unknowns and anxieties that can beset a person who knows there is a significant medical event coming up but can't control it.

Ask as many questions as you can think of -- the folks here probably have the answers, and they're very patient at answering questions clearly for those of us who might be just a bit technically challenged. They're also a really great group of friends who offer their support, before and after your surgery.

Again, welcome to The Waiting Room. Visit often and be well.

Welcome.

We've got so many new members my fingers are getting sore :D :D .

Good luck on your walk and we will help you out as much as possible, or at least provide a "shoulder".

May God Bless,

Danny

Hi Brad.....and WELCOME to a wonderful place. We've been members for about three years.....my husband, Tyce, had AVR in 6/02. I love it here and know you will, too.

Please keep us posted on your date, and feel free to ask any questions you'd like.....there's a multitude of opinions, and all of them great.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Evelyn

Hi, Brad, and welcome to our site. You're right: this forum is very empowering for those who are facing surgery. It wasn't around when I had mine, but even after the fact, I've learned so much from our wonderful members. You may or may not realize it, but there are several Australian members on board. I'm sure they'll be on shortly to welcome you. Take care and feel free to post any questions or concerns you have as you approach your surgery. :) :)

Welcome.

Welcome.

Brad. Nice to meet you. Hopefully you will continue to find the confidence and support here that many before you have. Keep asking questions. It helps others (like me who have no idea yet when their surgery will be). Good luck and visit often!

:) Marguerite

Welcome Brad.. like some I found this site after my surgery.. but then my surgery was pretty much in emergency mode when they finally figured what was wrong with me.. I didn't have the time or the choice - but after all that the shock of it all wore off and reality set in.. thank God I found this site shortly after my surgery.. while I don't post as often, I still try to check in as the long term support (especially for a semi-young female who had a AVR) here is out of this world.. welcome aboard. :)

Hi Brad

Welcome

So glad you found this site I had my AVR 5-25-05 and found the site only 1 month before, it has helped me so much.

I received an ATS Valve, this valve is suppose to be one of the most quietest mch valves out there per my surgen,. I can only tell you it has been a little hard for me getting use to the ticking, but without it I would still be tired all the time, SOB, and I am finding more and more every day how bad I really felt.

Keep reading and asking as many questions as you can as this will prepare you for the big climb up the mountian.

Good Luck
Dave

Welcome 30something

Welcome 30something

Welcome! Although I am on the top end of 30 and you are just inside - I can relate with AVR. Just a reminder to look for a doc and surgeon that have dealt with patients in their 30s - we are in a wierd "no man zone" that is not pediatric nor geriatric!

Best Wishes

Jewel

Welcome, Brad. I don't have anything to add except another welcome to this site. You have your valve choice settled on and it is a good one. My St.Jude mitral is quiet too....most of the time anyway :) .

Jan is right, waiting is one of the hardest parts.
